I was trying to do the steps in the post above and was getting a little caught up because of lack of time so I just decided to delete any registry changes I made and rapply the full registry backup of the Media Centre key to resort back to where I was.
Strange thing now is that every piece of HD content will now not play. It jumps skips, voice cuts in and out. This happens when i watch HD content on a HD channel Seven Ten etc... or even if i try and replay some recordings that were recorded in HD.
During all this I was disabling cards etc while trying to get the new TinyTwin working (woot!), which I now have working on it's own (except HD capability). I reinstalled my Video nVidia drivers in case it was causing a problem and have reinstalled the TinyTwin software a fair few times too.
We have bad weather here atm, but it is not the problem as my TV is playing HD channels fine just not Media Centre.
Any ideas on what I can do to resolve this without rebuilding the box?
P.S. Tutle should have been 3 tuners I have a PCI single and the USB TinyTwin
Am i correct to assume that this is the program that will chose what codec MCE will use to play and record Digital TV?
Does it effect the codec that is used to play DivX/Xvid's???
P.S. if Hardware Acceleration has been disabled how do you reenable it?? cant' see an option in deccheck.
Cheers
It changes the decoder for MPEG2 playback only (which can be live or recorded TV, DVDs, etc.). It won't impact AVIs.
The hardware acceleration settings will be within the decoder itself. For example, if you use Nvidia's PureVideo decoder, when you are watching TV or playing back TV, it has a control panel that appears in the system tray (near the clock). If you open it up, there is a setting for hardware acceleration.
The other main decoders (Cyberlink/WinDVD) will have a similar setting (but I don't know how to access or change them).
Justin

Come to think of it when I installed the TinyTwin Tuners it installed it's own DigitalTV software which most likely installed it's own codec which is not compatible with XP MCE.
I should be able to flick it back to what I was using before and I will be fine (WinDVD i think i was using).
Thanks for your help apprecaite it! Need to build back up Wife approval
Ok, I just went home and tried a few things. Looked at the program you suggested and I had 2 versions of Cyberlink and 1 copy of Intervideo.
When I installed WinDVD I assumed I was using Intervideo codec but it looks like I was using a Cyberlink codec and have no idea where it came from. The TinyTwin software installed a newer version of Cyberlink but MCE wanted to use the old one as a preferred default codec.
I tried all three of these codecs and nothing changed in the way of watching HD channels. I also noticed my DIVX's were not playing properly. I have the klitecodec pack installed aswell as a Community Pack giving me the halalii codec (or whatever it is) aswell. I also had the FFDShow codec installed on the top of that too. Bit crazy most likely.
I removed the ffdshow and the community pack then reinstalled them. Now I can watch HD video no problems. Only problem is now I have no sound on ANY of my digital channels
I will have a go by unisntalling EVERY DVD program and EVERY codec I have on the system and reinstall them. Can anyone suggest a specific MPEG2 codec for XP MCE??? I have a nvidia 7600GS PCI.
If this gives me anymore grief I think a rebuild is in order MCE XP seems like it can work quite well but can also be fairly unstable
You probably shouldn't have installed the DNTVLive software. If you're running it all the the MCE interface, I'd try and go back to a restore point before you installed it. Just install the DRIVERS for the TinyTwin only.
Ok the restore point worked GREAT! all my codec etc are all working agian.
I double checked that MCE could see my old PCI card and it is working great!
I then pluggedin my new TinyTwin USB device and installed the latest Driver ONLY.
Went into MCE and when I run the TV Setup it can see both my PCI and the USB device. I then setup the TV Signal to use my USB Device only for testing reasons and It will not pick up any TV Signal whatsoever, I plug in my Antenna Cable from my TinyTwin into TV and the Signal is fine.
I am using the right Drivers, as far as I can tell MCE can see the Card, what is wrong?
I installed the Tuner Software that came with the CD for testing reasons and the software it came with WILL use the USB device as far as I can tell but after installing the DNTV software HD channels run like apsolute garbage.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated... starting to feel I have wasted $130.
The fact that your antenna works well with your tv does not mean the signal is good enough for MCE, MCE is really choosy about its signal. Download ScanChannelBDA and run it and post your results, it will tell us your signal strength and quality and we may be able to advise you further.
As an aside, in some systems with multiple tuners, some tuners don't seem to pick up anything but when the system is set up using the tuners that work and the system is then hacked, either manually or using the tuner extender application it is found that all work. My system is like this where the DN PCI-E dual hybrid tuner will pick up channels on both tuners, but the two avermedia A777s will not, but after applying the registry hacks, (manually, as I can not get the extender to work), ensuring that the last channel scan is done using the DN tuners, I can record 4 channels simultainiously.
