I have recorded a bit of television in the last few days since getting my HTPC and I have noticed when playing it back that I am getting intermittent freezing in the recording.
I am running a DVICO Fusion Dual 4 Digital Tuner with the following setup:
Case Antec NSK2400
Motherboard Asus M2NPV-VM
CPU AMD Athlon64 4800+ Dual Core
DDR 2 2GB
Wireless Network Card Linksys WMP54G 54MB PCI Card
DVD Burner ASUS DRW-1814BLT
Hard Disc Samsung Spinpoint 500GB Sata II
Any ideas I want might be causing this? I would have thought that the system has plenty of power to record. Is it the tuner card?
This might not be the right thread if not can it please be moved the right thread.
EDIT: It doesn't freeze when watching TV live.

What's the CPU utilization when the freezes occur?
The fact that live TV works OK suggests that it's not a tuner problem, but one of the tuners may be down on signal & you may not be seeing it on live TV because the recording/live TV priorities of the 2 tuners are reversed.
After all of that, my chief suspect would be your wireless network card. Try doing some recordings & playback with it disabled in device manager (or better still, removed) & see if it occurs again.

Will try those things tomorrow morning as I am currently busy painting my new house so won't get a chance till tomorrow. Only came home for tea right now .
Where do I find signal strength? When I move I am having a very good digital antenna installed but I don't think it is too bad here but it probably could be better.
EDIT: I just had a second to do a quick check to see how it played in WMP and it worked perfect. So what does this indicate? I will still test the other things later.

Okay I have download the program and run it and I am going to take a stab and say it looks like the signal strength is the issue.
Am I right? Sorry I couldn't get it to upload the log file.

Yeah, it seems borderline, but scanchannelsbda can give wildly different results on different cards, so don't put all your eggs in the signal basket.
How much lower does the signal strength on the second tuner seem BTW? At least comparing your 2 tuners is like comparing apples with apples, so a difference between them is significant.
It's still worth trying the other things I suggested earlier (in case it isn't signal).
Cheers,
Justin

The second tuner dropped between 5% to 20%.
I did try the other things (other than checking the CPU usage when it is playing up) but it made no difference. Wireless card didn't make any difference, It did play perfect in WMP

1. The CPU utilization when freezing is between 8 - 15% and this is why it was also recordimg TV as well.
2. The wireless being disabled seems to make no difference to the recording.
3. I just tried playing the recordings in WMP and it made no difference at all.
4. It seems that signal strength is anywhere from in the 40% area to 60% which I would believe to be quite low. I am sure this will change when we move as I will have a proper out door antenna setup but I am unsure how I can improve this in the mean time as I only have indoor antennas.
I have also noticed that live tv is also playing up now. Not all the time but enough.
