Unhappy Hauppage 1100 and scanchannelsdba

Hi all,

after reading many posts i am very confused with my results from scanchannelsdba. With my hauppage wintv 1100 i am getting strength values in the range of -3000 -> -41000. Thats right, no typo here. A negative number???

What the heck does that mean. This setup was working perfectly fine what first installed 3 weeks ago. MCE could view and record channels fine. All of them. Then all of a sudden i could view tv but not record due to a signal error. When i deleted all channels and re-scanned i get nothing. Then i download the scanchannelsdba software and these are the results. Hence i dont know what i was getting before this happened. Only thing that has changed is software installs. These have been. Mcafee virus scan, logitech wireless keyboard and mouse, open office.

The negative numbers for the 1100 are fine. See this post, then follow the link to the hauppauge UK forums where Chris Day explains a bit more.

Perhaps your issues are related to new installs (maybe the wireless gear?) or maybe your antenna has moved or wiring has given up or....

Easiest test would be to restore back to before you installed all teh new hardware/software and see is problem still exists.

Re: Hauppage 1100 and scanchannelsdba

thanks for the info. I'll chase that up. I've all but discounted an antenna or cable issue as by hd box still works fine and there is no other reason to believe anything like that has changed.

I'll begin rolling back to where i was two weeks ago and see what happens.

This is very frustrating.

Re: Hauppage 1100 and scanchannelsdba

Well I've unistalled everything except for what was there when i first got the box. And still nothing. This is very strange to have a connection that had perfect reception and recording capability and now nothing. Even since i deleted the channels in MCE i can't get them back.

The scanchannels info was useful. My scans still show negative numbers sometimes. The hauppage site you referenced is not up so i still need to get an interpretation of the numbers to see what is good and what is bad.

Its looking like a complete rebuild at this stage.

Any other thoughts anyone ??

I should have re-read your earlier posts - you already mentioned that fact!

Cannot think of anything else to try other than rebuild (do you have a ghost image or similar?)

Smile Re: Hauppage 1100 and scanchannelsdba

I installed the latest drivers this morning for the tv card and did some more scanning of the signal, with different plug configs. When i got one where the signal looked half decent i tried re-scanning inside media centre and wammo it works now.

Probably the driver upgrade i think. Strange why it worked before though?

Anyway thanks for all your help. I'd be lost without this forum.

Re: Hauppage 1100 and scanchannelsdba

Drivers seem to cause lots of tuning problems. I have also had this sort of problem. How hard can it be for the driver to pass on a frequency request from MCE to the hardware? You would think it would be one of the most basic functions for any tuner driver...maybe the BDA implementations leave something to be desired?
