Problems with Hauppauge nova t 500 tuner

Guys..

I've got a problem with my dual tuner hauppauge TV card.

I was able to scan or the appropriate TV staions here in Sydney and I've picked up all of the free to air channels.....however, when I actually enter LiveTV though MCE, I can see channel 7 and 9 and SBS, but seems that channel 10 and ABC come up with the message "NO TV SIGNAL"

I tried all configurations possible in connecting the antennae...connecting from the wall to the tuner card...connecting from the wall to the STB then to the tuner card....but I always seem to have a problem with these 2 channels...any suggestions??

Here are my specs:

CPU: Pentium D 930
Mobo: asus p5ld2 se
gpu: sparkle NVIDIA 7300 GS
TV: Hauppauge NovaT 500 dual card.

Thanks.

Re: Problems with Hauppauge nova t 500 tuner

Hi glee88,

Please run the version of scanchannelsbda described here. Run it once for Tuner Dev1Path0, then rename the scanchannelsbda.log file so something else (eg Tuner1-0.log). Then run it for the other tuner (Dev1Path1) and also rename the log file. Attach the log file here.

Cheers,
vbap

Re: Problems with Hauppauge nova t 500 tuner

Thanks VBAP.

I'll try this 2night.

I've tried hooking up the antennae in 2 ways...

* CONNECT DIRECTLY TO WALL
When I do this, the scan doesn't even pick up any signals

*CONNECT TO MY PIONEER STB THEN TO THE PC
When I do this the scan picks up all channels...but when I watch liveTV, 7 and 9 and sbs are fine, 10 starts stuttering then brings up the no tv signal and abc just brings up the no signal...

it's very frustrating becuase I've installed it before with a different hauppauge t 500 card and things were working fine the first go when watching live tele, then the card died and I had to change it.....all cables are the same.

I live about 10 mins from the city (sydney) so don't expect to have any issues with reception.

...well, instead of going on about it, I'll see what information this scanchannels program can provide

Re: Problems with Hauppauge nova t 500 tuner

wow, with signal strengths like that, I dare say you either have
A) terrible reception
B) a faulty card, or
C) you plugged a rusty fork into the aerial outlet

Your log file for Path1 is incomplete...
YOu've got big problems with the results for Path0. Since you have had a previously working nova-t 500 in your machine, safe to say signal strength is not as bad as reported (-20 with quality 20/40%). Yu should be getting strength around 55-75, but for the NovaT, a quality reading of 100% (consistently) is an absolute must.
I'm almost certain this card is also a dud and you should return it. I am working with the distributor doing some testing on the NovaT 500 cards.

Re: Problems with Hauppauge nova t 500 tuner

Glee88,

I have the same issues as you reported: a DVICO dual card originally gave signal strengths of >80, but a brand new Nova-T-500 below 40. I also live only 10min from Sydney CBD. I can receive all channels, but only by putting the antenna in a specific spot & in a specific configuration.

I am very curious to see whether your exchange would fix this issue: let us know!

Re: Problems with Hauppauge nova t 500 tuner

it's a real hassle becuase I got it from a place in Auburn (Digital Star on sale for $189) and I live/work in North Sydney.....so the only time I can get to them is on Saturday....and I hate having to wait until Saturday to get this....I want to be sure that the card is the problem....nothing will be worse then getting the card back home and finding the same thing happen.....grrrrr.........I want to finally get everything up and running as this is the last piece of the puzzle......I've got a 'naked' htpc on the living room floor and WAF is degrading extremely fast.

....flowers will work for the first couple of times, but this is tiring out very quickly and now my unit smells like friggin' strawberry shortcake.

Re: Problems with Hauppauge nova t 500 tuner

Quite interesting glee88: I got my (faulty?) NOVA-T-500 card from exact the same shop about 1 week ago.

Simply coincidence?

Below 40 is on the low side, do you remember your quality value? Did you use the "UK" version of scanchannelsBDA?
Quality is much more important than strength for the NovaT 500's. You basically need 100% ALL the time to avoid stuttering. This should be simple enough to get (provided your digital reception / antenna etc is up to scratch), but if you know you can get good digital reception (eg via set top box) then could well be a faulty card.

Unhappy Re: Problems with Hauppauge nova t 500 tuner

%*^!#%!%(#! I purchased a Nova T500 card yesterday (17 July) - dashed off home & installed in my trusty MCE digital box (taking out the Nova T and Twinhan single tuner cards), set it to scan & didnt pick up a SINGLE CHANNEL! The cards I removed picked up all channels with no issues (but I did have stuttering on occasion - but that's another post).

I now see reading the posts today that I'm not on my own with problems with the new Nova T500 cards.

Does anyone know if there is a definate solution or should i be taking the Nova T500 back for an immediate refund?
Cheers...Sydmat

Hi Guys,

I've spoken to Digital Star and they are going to send the faulty card to me directly for replacement. I'll test it myself and ensure the replacement is also tested before returning to them

Thanks New Magic...that's magic!

I'm going to take time off work and pass it to them tomorrow and hopefully will be able to pick it on on Saturday......as I'm very keen on using it.
