MSI DigiVOX A/D

http://www.msi.com.tw/program/produc...il.php?UID=612

Anybody bought this new USB A/D TV tuner? Specification is very good and even come with AV/S-Video input.

Can't find any review on Internet and here.

Any idea?
Thanks

Re: MSI DigiVOX A/D

I to am interested in this model, but it's hard to get indepth info about them. It's not the first gen Digi Vox, and not the MEGA SKY 580. It seems to be a hybrid tuner (hence the A/D) to boot in a USB package. Does anyone know if it's another OEM Twinhan model? Seems to be going round $90. Has anyone got one yet?
Thanks

Re: MSI DigiVOX A/D

Hi again I found out from another source that this MSI version is a Kworld OEM product = KWorld PVR-TV 310U Dongle by the looks of it. I have also found a link of a review here:
I hope this helps others who may consider this MSI tuner.
Thanks Chris

Re: MSI DigiVOX A/D

Thanks for the information.

But if you look at the large picture from kworld and it doesn't look the same as the MSI one. Anyway can't sure whether they are the same or not.

I have a question regarding MPEG2. From MSI web site, it mentioned about MPEG 1,2 and 4. Is that mean it is hardware MPEG or software? How to tell?

Thanks

Hi,

At a guess normally it would be software, unless otherwise stated as a feature

Hi superhero, point noted, but do realise that some OEM products look slightly different from retail versions of the parent manufacturing company, eg look at the MSI digi vox Digital (OEM based from Twinhan) and the Twinhan Alpha (parent retail version). Apparently have the same guts, but look different. So it does happen. Compare the specs between the MSI & Kworld, they are nearly identical. I think in other industries the call it re-baging. The MSI does not have a hardware decoder, its all done with a software one. You would be spending big bucks to include a hardware decoder on your tuner.
Thanks

Re: MSI DigiVOX A/D

Thanks.

So in that case even the one from Hauppauge I think it is also software encoding.

MY MCE computer is a AMD 2400 Slot A, 512MB, 160G HD PATA, FX5900 Video card. Do you think it can do good software MPEG recording if I watch TV at the same time?

From the review, a lot of people mentioned that it will run hot after used for sometime. Is it normal for most TV tuner card or USB? My teac SD set-top-box also very hot.

superhero, I did find this link which compares various Hauppage devices showing which ones have/have not got HW decoders: http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/pages/pro..._products.html

I must admit I'm no expert on whether or not your system is up to scratch running a tuner with a software decoder - you may want to post your setup and ask this question.

I think most small usb stick tuners run on the hot side, maybe some more than others.
Thanks
