MCE not fnding all channels that ComproDTV does
this thread has 9 replies and has been viewed 464 times
I have a Compro DVB-T300 card.
If I scan using Compro DTV it picks up 44 channels. Out of those I choose the 2 SBS, 2 ABC, 7, 9 and 10. I'm only after the SD channels.
When I get MCE to scan it only picks up the ABC, 9 and 10 channels.
Why can't it see the others when Compro gets them without trouble ?

Yes sbucko me hearty, aye (dons eyepatch)
I have the same problem as scottb721 since I added a 3rd tuner. They are all on the one antenna loop (the first two tuners in the chain have pass-through). No booster.
It did work fine with two tuners. The 3rd tuner seems to have dropped the signal threshold below that which MCE finds 'acceptable'. Hence I do get the dreaded no signal blue screen on some channels. And the channel scan doesn't always find all the channels.
But I think it is a signal issue, not the DVICO USB driver issue, although two of the devices are DVICO USB. And they are connected to a powered hub.
Of course, the Fusion software can tune all the channels.
I have been thinking about this over the past couple of weeks, and I guess that there is a signal threshold set somewhere in MCE, and when the signal is below that, MCE displays the no signal blue screen.
Whether it be signal level, quality or BER that MCE evaluates, I don't know. But it does seem to me that there is some software threshold in MCE that determines if channels are found during channel scan and whether the no signal screen is shown.
Actually when I put a booster between the antenna point and the first tuner, nothing changed. The booster would have increased the signal. So maybe MCE looks for a certain quality factor or BER?
??? Of course I could be talking nonsense. It would be nice to know one way or the other.
but I tryed hunting through the registry to find some thing to adjust .............

My problems mainly been on CH10 so I've been setting recordings through the EPG and rebooting all arvo I even set a recording for the Bold & Beautiful (Blahh BluucKK) and that worked too....
I can't test it anymore as sometimes the THING just works(but rarely on CH10) & I'm heading off in a couple of days for a fortnight. So when I get back I expect to see 20 pages on this thread saying THAT WORKED GREAT. At lest I've got my fingers crossed as every thing helps.
EDIT ; DIDN'T WORK, SOMETHING IS HELPING....... BUT ONLY A BIT.....

Have you tried using an amplified splitter, rather than chaining via the pass-thru? I use to have a dvico dual + dvico lite, and used the pass-thru on the lite to feed the analogue tuner in the tv. I used a kingray sa22 powered splitter, to split the antenna from the wall into 2 - 1 fed the Lite, the other the dual. I still had problems scanning all channels (usually required 2 or 3 scans before I got them all), and occaisionally No TV signal.
I then change to 2 NovaT 500 and things are a lot better, but I'm certain my TV Antenna / cabling still contributes to poor signal strength. You can read about my 4 tuner adventures here
Re: MCE not fnding all channels that ComproDTV does
vbap thanks for your other thread. Yep, I tried an amp/splitter and feeding one tuner from one output, and the other two from the other output. Didn't help much. So I thought that I had to boost the signal up in the roof at the other end of the antenna cable.
When I was up in the roof I found that very nasty cheap coax - single screen, braid only! - is used for the wall runs. To make it even worse, the installer bundled the coax with the power cables so the coax picks up all the interference running over the AC wiring. So installing the amp/splitter up there didn't help reception down below, presumably because the coax is so bad. I fear that I may need to replace it to get reception up to scratch.
So scottb721 I hope you won't have to make any wiring alterations to fix your tuning problem. Don't get frustrated!

Yes, I am getting my electrician to replace all cabling with quad shield and f-connectors, and also remove any existing splits between antenna and TV outlet (WAF includes rule about one TV only in the house, so extra point in the study is useless...!).
I'll re-test signal strength and if still not good, then relocate antenna / get new antenna (antenna sits low on the roof could try moving it to higher point).
My signal strength is borderline, so hopefully just better cabling will be enough...!
Re: MCE not fnding all channels that ComproDTV does
Well,l I installed RU2 and got all the other channels. Yay
Only problem now is MCE won't remember what channels I've deactivated. It randomly forgets that I've deactivated HD and radio channels. The channel order also gets screwed up.
Strange !
