When MCE doesn't scan the DBTV card

I just thought I'd share this with you because it may help someone- I recently upgraded my twin ULTRAVIEW PLUS based MCE PC. After the installation and software upgrades MCE would NOT scan the cards. It recognised them, but wouldn't scan.

I tried every trick I could find here and elsewhere, to no avail. I re-installed the cards more times than I care to remember.

In frustration I decided to give up. I uninstalled the ultraviews and replaced them with a couple of Twinhans I had at hand. No sweat- away they went.

Next day, not ready to give up on the ultraviews, I uninstalled the TWINHANS, re-installed the ULTRAVIEWS and bingo, MCE scanned them no problems.

I think I sense the logic behind this- placing an alternative card in the system would force MCE to (probably) re-configure itself.

Worth noting, I think.

regards

I always have to go to scan for more services then delete all and back out to do a normal scan before mce will find all channels (with Dvico). Resetting MCE does the same thing but I am guessing you tried all that.
cheers,
Anthony

Ho,
I was getting an immediate zero scan, i.e. no activity at all. And yes, I tried every trick, I think.

Anyway, I'm pleased it works now.

Re: When MCE doesn't scan the DBTV card

This sounds like it is something very similar to what I'm experiencing.

I've only just started getting my act together with MCE. I'm running Windows XP MCE with an Ultraview DVB-T HD tuner card. This is basically a Fusion card with a different badge. I've installed the drivers and latest software and have no problems watching HD and SD TV on my computer through the card's software but Media Centre doesn't seem to like it.

I've downloaded Bladerunner Pro 3.5 and been to OzTivo site and downloaded all the necessary stuff and registered and I have the EPG working no probs but I just can't watch live TV through the media centre. Each time it tries to scan for services it just hangs.

Is there a way that I can force Media Centre to reset and try again....any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Molly

Maybe start with a MCE Reset?

System restore points are good if you have any.

Also, see this recent thread

I had this problem ages ago... was driving me nuts... posted on here asking for help and no one was able to figure it out (although I did get lots of helpful suggestions)

Turned out that it was a conflict with my Netgear wireless card - pulled that out and MCE went "Hey! I found a whole whack of TV stations!"... evil bloody thing....
