EPG without internet?

Hi, I'm yet to get my digital tuner card. I was just wondering what to expect. Is there any EPG without the internet? Or should I be saving for a wireless card too. I had a quick google and look on this site and unfortunatly it looks as if I will have to be saving for the wireless. I'd be happy if someone who knows this stuff could confirm for me.

Thanks,

Dusty.

Re: EPG without internet?

You do need the internet on at least one machine, even dial up will suffice.

You wil be able to download an xmltv file wiht guide data, but you will then have o transfer to MCE machine (via FLash drive) and manually inject the data into MCE

Re: EPG without internet?

Thanks for the reply. I guess that I would have to update the EPG on the htpc at least every week or so. Also how big is the xmltv file you mentioned? Would doing it this way be any less functional than a full time connection, as in images and show descriptions?

Thanks, sorry for my noobness.

Dusty.

Re: EPG without internet?

no images with epg, show descriptions no, file isn't too big, but currently you would have to manually do it every 3-4 days as this is all the good folks and oztivo are likely to have typed up to date.

If you can do full time connection it is better. Movie times, weather details, online radio stations etc.

Re: EPG without internet?

I'm in the same boat at the moment. I just download the xml file at work every few days (I'm using the jrobbo download), then use EPGRunner pointing to the external xml file.

Works like a charm!
