Scheduled Maintenance

Sorry for the late notice but I wasn't sure if personal matters would allow me the time to do the necessary work this weekend.

So now my deck's clear, it's time to close us down for (probably) a couple of days to perform not only an overdue forum update, but also to make some changes to the home page and the current forum structure.

Why are changes necessary? Well, since other Media Center technologies are constantly emerging, we believe that we need to be able to cater for community discussion as well as localised support for as many other options as possible.

Of course we will not lose focus on supporting the Windows Media Center which will remain our primary mission, but we can no longer ignore other HTPC/closed box options such as XBMC (for Windows, Linux & Apple), MythTV, Media Portal and of course PlayTV, along with other new and exciting digital media delivery systems, many of which are showing themselves to be viable Media Center front/backend platforms in their own right. Add to this some exciting new Linux based home server developments on the horizon, which will no doubt soon be challenging Windows Home Server for the title of "all in one, easy as pie" home server solution, and we have a home entertainment landscape which is constantly evolving, which means that we must evolve also.

So if things go to plan, there'll be some new areas to explore, learn about, comment on and help people with, and of course, the observant amongst us will notice that our name will be reverting to our original designate - "Australian Media Center Community", which we believe is more in keeping with our wider platform coverage.

I plan on closing our doors at 6:00am tomorrow (AEST) and given that there's a great deal of work to be done, I can't really provide an indication when we'll re-open, but I don't expect us to see daylight until at least late Sunday (AEDT). So wish me luck and I'll see you on the other side!

Mike
