In addition to the slow speeds around here these days, it's become almost impossible to get through my ongoing dev. work and basic housekeeping without FTP outages and HTTP slowdowns & timeouts etc., so 5 minutes ago I spat the dummy and I ordered a new box with a new host (my old host wouldn't price match even after nearly 5 years with them ).
In addition to the increasing load caused by this site, we now have a fair amount of traffic going through myepg.com.au and it seems that things will continue to get worse the longer I leave it.
The new rig run a Dual-Core 3040 Xeon (Conroe) with 4GB of RAM and a 100MBPS connection (industry standard), so hopefully we'll see a significant improvement once the migration has been completed.
I'm hoping that the server will be provisioned sometime early Saturday morning, this will leave me to move my accounts, files and databases across to the new box, change the nameservers and configure everything to have us back online again sometime on Sunday.
So this is tentative notice that with luck, you're in for another gardening or shopping weekend fellas, time to score a few more brownie points with SWMBO
If the server isn't set up in time for the weekend I'll have to wait until next weekend, so wish me luck - I have to say I'm somewhat nervous about being able to get through this without creating any serious problems.
Mike

Uh-Ohh - now I'm definitely showing my age 'cos I have no idea what that means - unless it's a new acronym which includes the original F word - in that case I'd suggest you're a very lucky boy!

Not just yet mate - but I live in hope. Sometimes enough is enough and that's enough to just do it - 'nuff said?

Mmm - "copious amounts of alcohol"- absolutely Oz! Strangely, and I'm a little ashamed to admit it, but lately I've slipped into the old Canadian Club more and more having moved away from single malt - go figure!?
Maybe it's just a phase or am I trying to reach back to my 20s??

Sadly I believe F stands for feared as in She Who Must Be Feared. For his sake I hope Phil posts to correct this.

Think this might be best avoided until AFTER the upgrade?
I'm relatively new around here, from this side i thought you have a great system and response times were fine. Maybe i'm just easy going when it comes to this sort of thing. The way i see it, when we are able to post (a no cost!!!) questions for help or just general information I really don't mine i it takes a few seconds to load or refresh, as I am (and everyone else i'd hope) extremely grateful towards yourself and all the other great people out there that use THEIR time and brain power to help complete strangers with issues with their own systems. I haven't really needed to post any major questions because of the bloody HUGE data base of questions that have been answered by yourself and all the other helpful people out there.
I guess basically all i'm saying is THANKYOU so very much for this fabulous site.
I'm sure if it came to it every single member could donate $10 or $20 atleast towards keeping this place alive and growing.
Best Regards
Ben
