I was trying to create a dedicated thread maybe even a sticky for the Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H motherboard. I am very new here and new to the whole HTPC thing aswell and thought it would be very handy to have one thread dedicated to the new hotness in HTPC mobo's, where all the info eg setup & config and compatibilities & conflicts can be found in the one place..
My plan was to regularly check back and update the first post with any new info so if the thread gets long people don't have to go through the whole thing because its all in the first post. Problem is after a day or so I couldn't edit the post.
Is it possible to make an exception for that particular post or any other way I can keep the first post updated please?
It won't be a sticky, but is there an edit button available for the post? The post isn't locked (AFAIK) & I was able to test edit it, but the site has just had a software update, so there might be a glitch.

Thanks alot Justin for the quick reply.
No there is no Edit button, there was when I frst posted and for a day or so but then it disappeared? I do have Edit buttons for my posts here though, only mention it in case its helpful.
The sticky was just a suggestion coz this seems to be the king of HTPC mobo's atm. But thinking about it that doesn't mean everybody is going to get that one, nor could we have sticky's for everyones fav mobo
This forum applies a set time limit for editing posts. There are sound reasons for this restriction, however, since it applies globally and can't be applied to individual threads, the only members who have unlimted editing time are the Moderators and myself.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Mike

Thanks again for a great forum! I found a wealth of knowledge and lots of friendly people in no time. Thank you.
Is there any chance that threads like that one that there could be some kind of exception? I only ask because I have seen many threads like this one - The Official Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H RS780 mATX Thread - AVS Forum - and they usually bloat out to many, many pages and to find the info you are after you need to read the entire thread. You can also see a bit of a this happening already with the bios discussion in my thread (Pls I mean no offence whatsoever to the posters) - Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H
It could be very helpful to be able to edit the first post to keep a concise and up-to-date list of all the things people need to know about the mobo, not only before they buy but also afterwards with installation/configuration tips and ongoing updates, in the one easy to find place?
I have often thought it would be useful to have a concise wiki style reference. The Vista tweaks thread is an example of a guide that has become long and cumbersome to use.
I just keep a personal cheat sheet of tweaks.
The following Member(s) said "Thank You!" to krypto for this information:

Sorry but as I said in my reply (above) - it's a software switch therefore no change to that function can be applied to individual threads anywhere in the forum.

Sorry Mike, for asking the same question again after you made it clear
Is there maybe some kind of alternative we could use somehow? krypto's wiki idea sounds great and perfect if thats possible? Thats really in essence what my thread is and some kind of wiki style reference could be great for lots of things like Vista to have one easy to find concise up-to-date resource of all the info you need?
LOL - I appreciate your enthusiasm, but f you were to search this forum (try this link - it might work), you'll see that after a fair bit of noise a bit over a year ago, I did create a wiki here which was integrated into the forum database.
Even as I was was doing it, I suspected that it wouldn't take hold - and I was right. After a week, nobody had added a thing and despite me reminding the people who had asked for it. Some months later it was still the same - it had died practically during birth so I dismantled it. I'd spent nearly 3 weeks setting up a wiki which had the entire spectrum of our MC world available as a data source and it remained as empty as the day I finished it. If we couldn't get it going back then when a lot of people wanted me to build it - I just can't justify starting it all over again, and especially in support of a single motherboard.
So whilst I'm all for new ideas and always trying out new features here, I've come to learn that we as a community are not too good at getting involved in anything outside of direct forum support & discussion. And frankly that's fantastic, but I need to recognise where our strengths are and work with them. Our forum format has served us well for quite a long time, the information is all in one place and is searchable, and frankly, if someone can't be bothered spending a little time working through a long thread - well maybe they're not ready to be trying to get their heads around the vagaries of a media center just yet.
So I suggest that we leave it as a forum post and manage the best way we can from there - if it gets too long, there's no reason it can't be closed with a re-direct to an updated thread with new information.
Mike
