Thread Tagging - Continue?

It's been a few days since I activated "Thread Tagging" and so far, apart from 2 or 3 members suggesting they're a ittle distracting (I agree btw), I'm unsure of their value within our context.

So to simplify things, I figured that a quick poll might resolve this - I do recognise that it may be too early to judge the concept - especially if there were a better way to implement it which I've missed, but first impressions can often be right.

As I said in thread where I intro'd them, I'm learning about them too, for example I may have chosen the wrong words to use as "tags", perhaps we need a wider range of tags to choose from, maybe they need to be shorter words or even completely different ones. Remember their raison d'etre is to add another layer of functionality for people searching for information - but since we already have our information divided in specific categories by forum, maybe the value of individual thread tagging is questionable?

So if after you've voted you feel the need to qualify your response, please do so here - especially if you voted in favour of them and believe we need a wider range of tag words to be made available, I need to know which words you believe would be more appropriate. Please note - I can set up different tag words for each forum.

Thanks,
Mike

Wah!.... I was going to be the first to vote.

Then I had my smart remark about how the vote was 100% my way and you could close the poll now.

Hit the submit button... What do you know... you closed the poll......

That'll teach me to be a smart alec......

Seriously though,...... I do not find the tags useful right now, but if other people are going to use them then I don't really mind that they are there.

Cheers

Re: Thread Tagging - Continue?

TBH, I don't find them particularly useful either.

I'm guessing a lot of people use the 'Today's Posts' link to find new posts, I do and I find that when there is a post with the Tag the useful bit of information (i.e. the post title) is not the first thing your eye is drawn to.

I think it would be useful for posts by the Admin team, as it does draw your attention, and as it would only be used on a very limited basis, it would lend impact to those posts.

Re: Thread Tagging - Continue?

Is it possible to implement an icon instead of text ?
Is it possible to place an icon in the second column. The same colum where the
Poll icon is ?

It will remove any confusion with additional text. Leaving a clean fresh page.
And still offer functionality for people searching for information.
I'm for tagging. As long as it doesn't look unsightly on the page.

Re: Thread Tagging - Continue?

I find I still look at the title and the coloured tag is just distracting.

Not sure what value it adds as you always have to read the title anyway.

Sorry King, I was. There no first night rule for kings here

Little tag icons are distracting me visually. You cannot click on them, and every thread has them.
If they are created anyway, in every thread why icons then?
I am not against tags, but don't see why we need icons for tags.
One thread I was creating would not submit - saying too many tags I could not get it for a while, but then deleted tags and could submit. I had too many tag words in my subject

Maybe it's the forum's way of saying you talk too much.
