Replying to 55 day old posts

Hey,

Why can a post be made to a 55 day old post in the quick reply but not in the advanced editor?

Cheers

Re: Replying to 55 day old posts

The 55 day limit is a modification that I added to the original forum script and that's just the way it's been coded

Re: Replying to 55 day old posts

I think I just ran into this:

This Thread is more than 466 days old, you can't reply to it.

Okay, mine is a little older than 55 days, but what gives with that? What's the reasoning behind the restriction?

Actually you can reply using the quick edit box - but you first have to check a box to ensure you are aware it's an old thread.

Before I applied the restriction, we were constantly seeing new people add questions to the end of old threads regardless of how relevant or how old they may have been.

Sometimes the thread had been dead for a year but they didn't seem to notice and just tacked their question onto the end of it.

The restriction is to try and encourage people with a problem to start a new thread relevant to them and their configuration rather than adding "I have the same problem - please help" to the end of an 8 page thread that nobody has been near for months.
