Hosting warren hosting. There is a large number of users, large amount of data and bandwidth and mike does this for free. If you have to think twice dont help then, but i will continue to do so.

Mike needs more sponsors and assistance.

Re: So Slow..........................

Mike if you contact me I might be able to help with better server within budget. No promises but I need to know what is needed. I sent you an email yesterday you may have missed on this topic. Alternatively it might be good to work out what is needed to make the site fast and then see if the members are up to paying more for a faster service. Anyway drop me a line and I will see if I can help.

Now this is not a shot at Mike, but i'm a bit suss about the reasons for the slow speed. Why? Because i used to mod on a forum with about 100 times the number of active users of this place, on a server of lower specs, and it ran much faster than this.

Re: So Slow..........................

Could also be latency if it's going through that crap hole alter.net on the way to the server if it is OS.

LOL - no offense taken at all - but I have approximately 500 users on all the time - so if you're saying that a lower specced (single) server than this one handles 100 times that or to be more precise - 50,000 simultaneous users 24/7/365?? - sorry but methinks you might be dreaming

Having said that - it was slow when I got here tonight so I rebooted and it seems a little better - but sadly it won't stay that way!

We just need a new box that's all - and that's what we're saving up for

Mike

Re: So Slow..........................

That's pretty damn good. Think about it, 50 000+ users is a lot and that's bound to put a load and a half on top of any server. Tonight it loaded pretty quick for me, sometimes it is slow for me on any site, not just this one.

I had a friend in the Netherlands that I think started programming when a PC took up the size of a house to have a look at the tracert and do some investigation and here is what he observed. I am not an expert but clearly the server seems to be adequate but something is going wrong at or near the datacentre makeing the site very unresponsive or not available quite regularly. I think for the money being spent there may be better value elsewhere but I am not telling anyone what to do or being unapreciateive. A website like this however intermitant or slow is far better than none.

.......

yes I also get a time out in the US

www.dnsreport.com shows:

[ERROR: I was unable to get an answer from the parent servers [dns1.telstra.net], when I tried to find the NS records for xpmediacentre.com.au.]

then it worked and found nameservers as support-hosting.com

go there and get:
IMPORTANT NOTICE

SUPPORT HOSTING HAS BEEN SOLD AND IS NO LONGER TRADING On Sunday 27th November 2005, all Support Hosting customers were transferred to Vantage Host

If you missed the notifications which were sent out or you haven't yet updated your DNS records and your website no longer loads, please contact tickets-services@vantagehost.net to make the necessary arrangements to reactivate your website on the new server.

Support Hosting would like to thank all our customers for their support and we wish you well for the future.

Mike & Harry
Support Hosting .

Vantage-host.net is dead for me. Dnsreport shows:
A timeout occurred getting the NS records from your nameservers! None of your nameservers responded fast enough. They are probably down or unreachable. I can't continue since your nameservers aren't responding. If you have a Watchguard Firebox, it's due to a bug in their DNS Proxy, which must be disabled (31 Jul 2006 UPDATE: several years after being informed of this, there is a rumor that there is a fix that allows the Watchguard DNS proxy to work).

ip whois shows:
Team Technologies, LLC TEAMNET (NET-147-202-0-0-1)
147.202.0.0 - 147.202.255.255 FastServers, Inc. FASTSERVERS-MIDWEST-DC (NET-147-202-41-0-1)
147.202.41.0 - 147.202.41.255

so - not in good shape
