OK - just got home from work at 9:30pm and found that I had no choice but to delete 2 threads in the pub from long term members.
One of them was advertising PC fans for a vendor he knew but didn't work for or with, he'd asked my permission and I'd reluctantly agreed because it was suggested that it was for the benefit of our members. Why was I reluctant? - well because the same rules need to be applied to everybody as I've done consistently for the last 2
1/2 years, and I was concerned that I'd be opening the door to others to "set up shop" and post commercially - which would then be in breach of our rules.
Well it happened, and today there was a thread selling LCDTVs (that I hadn't known about) and sadly I only have myself to blame for relaxing the rules. Whilst some may argue that we should be allowed to see the good deals, that's not the function of this website, and with 37,000+ members, several thousand of whom operate their own businesses, we run the risk of being awash with ads in a heartbeat if I allowed things to change.
So guys - we're back to square again. I don't have many advertisers - but I can't risk giving any of them reason to ask me why they should pay me $100 for a banner when other people are allowed to advertise for free.
Anyone wanting free advertising is welcome to use the
classifieds section.
Any further questions about this decision - please read section 2.1 of
the rules first and then PM me.
Mike
