Bigpond Email Users - Please Note!

People who are planning to sign up with this forum using a Bigpond email account should be aware that no emails are getting through from my server.

I've had a spate of complaints form new sign ups who are not receiving the activation email - all with Bigpond accounts as follows:

@bigpond.com
@bigpond.com.au
@bigpond.net
@bigpond.net.au

I can only assume that after the recent phishing attack, Spamcop blocked my IP for 24 hours - it would seem that Bigpond who I believe use Spamcop haven't bothered to remove the block even though Spamcop removed theirs within 24 hours.

I've tried without success to contact anyone at Telstra who can at least point me to those responsible for maintaining the list - but since the same people are currently blocking all Gmail accounts - I hardly think they're going to even listen to me.

If anyone here knows someone inside Telstra who can help me cut through all this bull****, I'd appreciate a PM with an email or phone number.

In the meantime - anyone who wants to sign up and has a Bigpond email - sorry but you'll have to open a Hotmail or Gmail account instead.

Re: Bigpond Email Users - Please Note!

Ahh - that would probably explain why i stopped getting email notification to subscribed threads a few weeks ago.
Coma.

Re: Bigpond Email Users - Please Note!

Yup - several times from a few different email addresses - nobody replies

I suspect that email is more about reporting spam than getting to the people who run the spam traps.

What really has me puzzled though is that none of the emails are showing up in my server's mail queue - this means that they're not bouncing them.

So clearly they're getting through to Bigpond - they're just not being redirected to the user.

Re: Bigpond Email Users - Please Note!

Are you certain that it is because of Spamcop? Are you getting any bounce messages?

If you have been removed from Spamcop's list you'd assume(hope!) that Bigpond's servers would update their blacklist regularly.

I can only assume so because it happened at exactly the same time.

Like I said above - there are no bounced emails in my mail queue - and they always appear when an email is marked as undeliverable.

When Spamcop got me - hotmail blocked me - and all the emails came back as undeliverable so I became aware immediately and was able to act to fix it.

I only became aware of the Bigpond problem when a pattern started to develop with new registration complaints - and even then I was doubtful because of the empty mail queue

Re: Bigpond Email Users - Please Note!

I'm hoping I may have found the problem.

It appears that sometime recently my reverse DNS became screwed up which might explain why the Bigpond email server treats emails from me as suspicious.

Could I ask one or two people with an email address ending in:

@bigpond.com
@bigpond.com.au
@bigpond.net
@bigpond.net.au

to send me a test email to admin@xpmediacentre.com.au.

Please be sure to post here once you've sent it so I don't receive hundreds of emails

Mike

Unfortunately my latest employer prevents web based email but I'll try to remember to send you one when I get home Mike.
