As some here would know, it's a constant struggle to to break even despite receiving a few donations and selling a little advertising each month. At the moment we're 71% through the year and just behind budget (65% of total), but the money's running out fast.
In addition, I've been informed that my server is starting to creak due to it getting a bit long in the tooth (3.5 years) so it's showing performace degradation which is compounded by a constant increase in traffic due to our popularity. This means that we really need to upgrade to bigger box, which will of course will add significantly to the total operating costs. I estimate they'll increase from around $4,200 AUD to between $6,000 and $6,500AUD per annum, and of course this still leaves our box in the States, but the site would load a lot faster and I'm sure you'll all agree - we've slowed down a lot - we need more speed!
So in an attempt to leverage our traffic and generate a little more revenue, I've built pur own
Amazon affiliate store (I know - it's getting desperate
). Sadly, until they have an Australian base, we're stuck with U.S. mail order, but for anyone (or their friends) who's thinking of using an Amazon shop - it's be good if you could use this one.
I certainly won't be able to retire on the margins involved (4% to 8.5%)
- and to be honest I'll be surprised if we sell anything - but every little bit will help.
