Having followed with interest the various discussions amongst the regular crowd about rep points, how they're earned and how difficult it might be for recipients of assistance to be able to show their appreciation, I've managed to hunt down a bit of a hack which (thankfully) will be able to replace Vlad's signature.
As you can see, in certain forums there is a new

button at the bottom right of each post.
The idea is that when someone benefits from the contents of another member's post, we now have the ability to send a quick "Thank You" to the author of the post, which through the magic of AJAX opens a little box underneath and shows the name of the 'Thank You-er'. In addition, accumulated "Thank Yous' also show up in the modified reputation box. Finally, each 'Thank You' attracts 2 rep points - but you cannot thank the same post twice nor can you thank yourself at any time.
As you would guess, I can see who gives and receives 'Thank You' and will tap anyone on the shoulder who is tempted to play silly buggers
There are a few more things to be added, but at the moment, given that this modification adds a couple of database queries to each thread-view, I want to monitor the effect on server load over the next few days before I decide if keeping it active will cause any problems.
So enjoy the new toy - and to Vlad - thanks for motivating me to enable you to remove your rep point begging bowl
Mike
