Updated Big Screen Weather2 Data File (DEC-2009)

    Hi All -

Please find below an updated Big Screen Weather v2 Data File (DEC-2009) to address following issues/enhancements -

    - Fixed : updated domain for Australian BOM Radars (previous data file stopped working).

    - Added : brand new 7 Day Forecast Locations for Melbourne Metro area including Moorabbin, Cranbourne, Frankston, Yarra Glen, Watsonia and Mornington Peninsula (Previously Cerberus).

To patch an existing installed copy of Big Screen Weather v2 - please do the following (while Big Screen Weather 2 is not running) :

    1) Extract the file bsw2lu.dat from the attached .zip file (in this message) to your local harddrive.

    2) Locate the Weather 2 Program Data directory on your harddrive (available once the original product is installed) -

    <WindowsDrive>:\ProgramData\Big Screen\Weather 2\Data

if Vista (or Windows 7) is installed on your c: drive - then the path will be :

    c:\ProgramData\Big Screen\Weather 2\Data

    3) Copy the file bsw2lu.dat over the top of the old file in this directory. (You should be prompted to 'overwrite' this file if you have the correct location).

    4) Start Big Screen Weather v2 and you should see the new/enhanced content when you go to the imagery section.

Please let me know if anyone has problems with this new update (or spots anything else which needs to be fixed - or new BOM Forecast locations you think can be added) - ortherwise I will patch it into the downloadable installer for this product.

    thanks

    Niall / bigscreenglobal.com

Niall, I've found the folder and put the dat file there but was only given the usual administrator prompt and nothing about overwriting the file. Am I missing something here?

    Cheers

Hmm.. it should definitely have been an 'overwrite' of an existing file (bsw2lu.dat). Maybe double check it was the 'data' subdirectory (in c:\ProgramData\Big Screen\Weather 2\Data - if Windows is on c: drive)- and then you see a bunch of other .dat files - otherwise it's the wrong place.

    Hi Niall,

Thanks for the fix, at least I have one rain map now (Buckland Park 256km). None of the other radars in Adelaide (and I think SA) seem to work though (well they don't show rain at least when there is rain shown on Buckland 256km, so there should be in the others). I would be good if you can get Sellicks and the other Buckland ones working.

Hi- will have a look at these other radars on the weekend - and see whats up there. It's possible the idr's list (radar codes) have been updated/changed/added so it shouldn't be an issue once I update the db. (I think)

    Hi Naill,

We finally got some rain for the first time this year in SA and this reminded me of the problem with the Buckland Park radars. Have you had a chance to look at this ?

    Cheers.

    Hi -

Sorry I didn't post back here - but using the updated data file (at top of this post) - I've not had any problems viewing the Buckland Park or Sellicks Hill radars - and just confirmed this again now. (assumed it was just a temporary glitch that day you were testing).

Is there any chance you didn't successfully deploy the new data file - and thats what is preventing it working? (otherwise we could take some steps to totally clear out any old files which may be causing issues).

    Niall
