Register and Launch an Exe file in MCE

    based on this thread

Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 / 7 Launcher in MCE for Vista/Win7

    http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/comm...ista-win7.html

you can use the installer.exe to create your own menu items that run exe file from MCE.

I think this is a useful tool - thus it is in a different thread.

You can set defaults by modifying the ini file.

if you really want to get a little advanced - such as closing MCE on running an exe and then opeing MCE after the app closes... see the RunApp.exe and RunApp.ini in the RunApp.zip file

All you have to do is tell the installer to use 'RunApp.exe' and then configure RunApp to run your application.

    Cheers

    *New Version*

    based on this thread

MceCyberlinkPowerDvd 1.2.1 - A Free Plugin for Windows Media Centre

you can use the MceRegisterTool.exe to create your own menu items that run exe files from within MCE.

I think this is a useful tool - thus it is in a different thread.

Files can be downloaded from here http://www.adam.com.au/kane81/

    Create your own Custom Launcher

    1) Download and install the MceCyberlinkPowerDVD_1.2.1

    2) Copy the 'MceCyberlinkPowerDvd 1.2' directory and name it 'NameOfMyLauncher'

    3) Edit the MceRegisterToolini file to suit the description of what app you are going to run (do not change RunApp.exe)

    4) Change the two Id fields to ‘Id=’ – no value will get the installer to auto generate you an Id

    5) Run MceRegisterTool.exe – copy the two new generated Id values, and paste them into the MceRegisterTool.ini files ‘Id=’ fields

    6) Close MceRegisterTool.exe and run MceRegisterTool.exe again

    7) Click 'Install'

    8) Run RunAppConfig.exe and turn FindCyberLinkPowerDVD=False

    9) Specify the exe you want to run by browsing and setting the ApplicationExe field

    10) Save and Close - Then edit the Keyboard.ini file to point to your exe.

    11) Run MCE and Test

    12) Uninstall by running MceRegisterTool.exe and click 'Uninstall' – select the appInstall.xml and your done!

Does anyone know how to send parameters to an exe with the Configurator on Chad Dyess' site?

I can get a shortcut to IE to work, but I want to be able to add the URL after so it goes directly to that site.

Re: Register and Launch an Exe file in MCE

    Solved it.

After you've used the configurator to get the basic stuff happening, you need to adjust the ini files for each registration.

I haven't figured out how to view hidden folders in Windows7 yet, but if you type in c:\programdata into the address bar you will find a folder called Dyess....something (sorry, not at home)

If you browse down to the folder with the same name as your registration you will see an ini file, you only need to edit this. To open up ABC iView in full screen I created a registration that opens iexplore. I've edit the ini file to go to "c:\program files\Internet explorer\iexplore.exe -k http://abc.net.au/iview"

The -k open IE in kiosk mode, i.e. (haha) in full screen mode with no buttons, address bar etc. This is the same as pressing F11.
