No SBS channels working in Darwin
Hi,
I just built a new VMC (first MC), however I can't pick up SBS. It seems to pick everything up in the scan (all SBS channels are added to the list) but when I try and view them the "No Signal" comes up?
All other programs look fine?
I'm using 2 x DNTV Live! Dual Hybrid PCI-E S3 cards.
Can someone help?
Thanks,
Tam

Re: No SBS channels working in Darwin
G'Day Tam,
Darwin is a bit funny, in that the television transmissions can be inconviniently placed - depending on where you live. I used to be in Nightcliff, and the problem I had was that SBS (and later 7) were transmitted from Thorak, where as everything else was transmitted from Fannie Bay. Where I was there was about 90 degrees angle between them, and it was almost impossible to find a good compromise for the antenna. I ended up bolting it to the balcony and twisting it to suit - sort of like oversized rabbit ears.

Sutty

Re: No SBS channels working in Darwin
I was having issues with SBS in darwin on the hvr-2200, which new magic have just issued new drivers for.
Just wanted to throw the possibility out there that your card is affected by the same frequency tagging issue.

Re: No SBS channels working in Darwin
Well tried a Hauppauge NovaT 500 tonight, worked first time with SBS. Put my Leadtek DTV1000S back in and did another scan. Picked up SBS.
Go to watch TV, still no SBS signal even though it detected it during the scan.

Re: No SBS channels working in Darwin
Fixed for the Leadtek DTV1000S. I can now watch all 5 SBS channels in Darwin.
Had to add the EnableAutoOffset DWORD key to the registry and set to 1
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0008\Parameters]
"EnableAutoOffset"=dword:00000001

Re: No SBS channels working in Darwin
Sorry for going quiet on this one. I landed myself in Hospital for an extended period so fixing SBS wasn't really high in the priority list!
Now I'm back home and recovering (unfortunatly a log way to go), SBS is back on the radar. I've done everything on the list above including rag patches where required, but no difference.
I had a go rescanning, and it picked up the new stations but still no signal. SBS works Direct connected to TV, with full signal on all stations - it's a new house with all the correct digital items. I wouldn't expect it to be a signal issue but you never know... The too much signal postings could be an issue so I'll possibly look into that? Possibly get my hands on a antenna signal strength monitoring device?
I've tried bypassing the antenna splitter system and connecting directly to the PC (more signal doing this), but the same result, no good.
I guess it's looking more card related. Plan of attack - I'll follow up with DigitalNow first, PC rebuild, and then try a different card... trying a different card will be interesting.
Thanks for all the advice so far!

Re: No SBS channels working in Darwin
Tam, the exact reg key I posted won't be 100% correct as you have a different card so will have a different class ID.

Re: No SBS channels working in Darwin
This is a fairly important bit

I decided to do something about my SBS issue this morning, and jsttry was spot on with his post.. Ive documented the process a little to help make things clearer
First thing you need is a special ID number, its associated with your TV Tuner, and to get it we need to fire up Device Manager, and go to the Properties screen for the card. Then go to the Details tab, and choose Device Class GUID from the drop down.. mine was the same as jsttry's, but just to be sure I suggest double checking (it only takes 2 seconds!)

Next step is to modify the registry, of course back it up etc before you do anything.
Navigate down to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\
Select the ID number we identified earlier from the list and expand that.. There should be a bunch of numbers, several of which are expandable - click on those looking at the details which popup in the main screen, you're looking for your TV tuner card so it should be labeled fairly obviously

Once youve found that, click on the Parameters, right click in the main section of the screen to enter a new DWORD and call it EnableAutoOffset and give it the value of 1

Reboot the machine, and SBS might work if we didnt **** anything up. It worked for me

Re: No SBS channels working in Darwin
YAY, YAY, YAY...
SBS is now working!
SBS is now working!!
SBS is now working!!!
Thanks guys!
I did the reg hack that Jsttry suggested (I have two dual cards so I had to enter it into both). I worked out where in the reg it had to go a little different way than going into the device manager, but the device manager way would have been easier.
When it didn't work at first I thought it was possibly an Hauppauge issue that didn't relate to DNTV cards... but AFTER doing the reboot it all worked! So many reg things work without a reboot... I feel really silly that I didn't try it straight away and waited a day after making the change to do a reboot!
Thanks again! Top gear and insight series recording here we come.
Tam
