Re: selecttv
You can just pick up a DVB-S card and with a bit of magic use the selectv cam directly (no need for analogue inputs at all).
SelectTV doesn't use videoguard encyrption so the cams unencrypt the signal."How's the serenity"

Re: selecttv
I'm considering getting SelecTV - partly because ongoing antenna issues are driving me nuts, and SelecTV now offers free to air channels through their STB, and a $0 upfront package including dish etc. However, they don't have HD FTA channels.
SO, how would one set up with MCE to receive SelecTV, plus HD channels (through antenna I guess) and set it all up to work nicely.
Most of what I see here on the forum regarding SelecTV seems pretty old.
EPG issues seem a bit of a worry too - I'd be lost without a good EPG - with no decent EPG option, that could be a dealbreaker for me.
Thanks for any thoughts
PS, forgive the ignorance, what are "cams" in this context (from the previous post)?

Re: selecttv
"Conditional Access Module". Its a thingy that you plug into your STB which in turn you plug your subscription card in to. It provides the means to decrypt the pay providers signal. You need both to watch. If you have a Satellite PCI card (with a Cam port) in your HTPC you can plug it in there instead. No need for a STB.

Re: selecttv
You are a little confused. Select TV do not offer free to air commercial channels via their satellite service. The decoder they supply has both FTA digital tuner ( using your existing antenna) and of course pay tv ( via satellite dish). The built in FTA tuner is SD only so you are correct on that statement.

Re: selecttv
If you are using a supported card with TVPack 2008, theres almost zero magic involved, Just checking to make sure the right transponder settings are in there.
The floppyDTV and hauppauge DVBS + USB CAM gadget are the best options if you want to go down the dvbs route. Doing it that way, vmce will also allow dvbt input into the mix without the shenanigans of dual setups as required preTv pack.
Of course, the TVPack downsides are also worth considering
