Loss of signal

I just purchased a brand new computer a few weeks ago and have been trying to set-up my TV tuner with no success whatsoever. Hopefully someone here will be able to help me as the Green Button could not and suggested I do a clean re-install which I would rather not since I am not enough computer savvy to do so. Not to mention, XP was pre-installed and I don't have the disk.

I run on WinXP Media Center 2005 SP3
The computer is an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz and 3.5 GB of RAM
The TV tuner card is a Hauppauge Win TV HVR-1250 model 79xxx, hybrid ATSC/QAM and I did not get the remote as I was told it was easy to program and watch without it and I would save lots of money.

Anyway, I set up the TV in the Media Center but had to do it manually because the IR hardware and remote sensor was not detected (of course not). It found a signal and allowed me to download the guide. So far so good. However, I keep getting the following error message:

Loss of signal
Media center has stopped capturing data due to low data rate in the TV signal. This applies to live as well as recorded tv.

My signal comes from a digital cable which originally was plugged in a cable modem. I have purchased a splitter so I could send the signal to both my modem and computer but obviously, I'm missing something here.

Please note that I can receive a few channels if I use WinTV but the quality is crappy and since I paid for Media Center, I would think I should be able to use it.

I contacted Hauppauge and they sent me updated drivers. That allowed me to view WinTV as indicated above, but still the same error message in MCE.

I submitted a request to the Green Button site and was asked to troubleshoot the decoders. So I installed the video decoder checkup utility which resulted in the following list of compatible decoders on board:
- InterVideo Video Decoder v6.0.6.190
- Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder v6.0.0.3614
- Cyberlink SAC Video Decoder v6.0.0.2122

I tried them all, no luck so they suggested I download the platinum decoder from Nvidia. That didn't help either. So finally, yesterday I installed the Media Center diagnostic kit.
I'm not sure I understand all the technical info in there, but I did notice that a lot of software devices installed on my computer are incompatible with MCE, here is a list, to name a few:
- ATI CC Multiplexer
- ATI MGEP Multiplexer
- ATI MPEG video decoder
- ffdshow audio decoder
- Hauppauge WinTV MPEG2 mixer
- Intervideo multiplexer
- Intervideo non CSS audio Decoder for Hauppauge
- Intervideo non CSS video decoder for Hauppauge
- Main concept (Hauppauge) MPEG multiplexer
- Main concept (Hauppauge) MPEG video decoder
- Main concept (Hauppauge) HCW AC-3 audio decoder
- MPV decoder filter
After this list, I got discouraged and signed off

At this point, I'm about to throw my new computer out the window and would appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you

You dont say what country you are in.

If you are in Australia, you cannot use the cable as a antenna source. You would need a set top box to do the decoding and feed that in as a analogue signal. Otherwise to get dvb-t signals you will need a antenna as a source

If you are in america, then you would need a cable card tuner and a supplied cable card from your cable provider if you are intent on using the cable as a source, or a antenna of some type to pick up broadcast signals ( I am unfamiliar with the US way of doing things)
