"Windows Media Center TV Pack was released on July 16, 2008. Not all computers that are shipped by hardware vendors in the retail channel will have Windows Media Center TV Pack. To check whether your computer has the Windows Media Center TV Pack installed, follow these steps:
1. Start Windows Media Center.
2. In the Start window, scroll to Tasks, click Settings, and then click General.
3. Click About Windows Media Center, and then click Software Version.
If the version is 6.1.1000.18273, you are running the Windows Media Center TV Pack.
If the version number is 6.0.6001.18000, you are not running Windows Media Center TV Pack. You are running the version of Windows Media Center that is released in Windows Vista or in Windows Vista SP1."

Nice way to **** off most customers Microsoft...
Media Centre is now in 2 versions of Vista, just incase you didnt know.
That means millions of people have it, and allot like basically everyone here actually use it!
This isnt something coming out in OEM only you know!
Ill ring MS later and see if they can send it to me.

The update essentially makes VMC a fresh install because of the structural changes contained in it - you certainly couldn't put it out as a standard update.
So, the next question is do you still make it available to everyone (& cope with the fall out) or do you only allow it to be installed under controlled circumstances (OEMs on new PCs)? The easier choice was the latter.
It will be able to be installed on existing systems (it's not slipstreamed in to the OEM version - still just an add on), but that won't be officially supported (or offered).
I don't like it, but that's how it is.

Does it change the video saving format? (from DVR-ms to WTV or whatever)
I might go hunting for the full details on what it changes and decide from there.
And now they have 2 channels to support - mainstream and OEM channels (w/ or w/o TV pack) which is also a bad situation.

Yes, to WTV.
I totally agree, & it's the same for this forum - how are we meant to help people who sign up here if they have a version that we don't have? And now they have 2 channels to support - mainstream and OEM channels (w/ or w/o TV pack) which is also a bad situation.

MS are officially a joke..... I know lets make MediaCentre an integrated part of our OS, then when people get used to it and start using it, we'll make it OEM so they have to buy new hardware to use it.
A big f u to microsoft."How's the serenity"

Yes dgaust im with you there.
What a pack of sad sacks.
What ****es me off is that after buying TGB, Jeff from ehome had stated that they were trying to improve the image of MS with the community by being more open with releases.
Well they aint said s@#t about this tv pack.
He has been there posting in other threads so im sure he has seen the kafuffle going on with the community.
Silent as always, some things never change.
