Re: EASY Instructions for Adding Extra Tuners to VMC Update

    Great post.

    I have replaced my 2 DTV1000 cards with a HVR2200.

If I put 1 or both of the DTV1000 cards back in do you think they would work ok with the HVR2200?

    thanks

I shall try this - but I note the hard paddings setting is not there for series recordings - only single shows?
    Thanks,

If you only have 2 tuners and want the 2 shows to record as separate files, you need to at least alter the hard padding end time of the 1st show, in the guide - select the show - go into record settings - change finish time to 5,10,15mins etc (hard padding).

If you only have soft padding settings on (+ or -4mins max), then show 1 stops at scheduled time and show 2 starts at scheduled time, back to back.

Gets tricky if you then have 2 back to back on one channel and then a 3rd at the same time on another channel. To get all three you need to leave the hard padding as default, the back to back shows get recorded with tuner 1 and the 3rd show with tuner 2. The shows would then overlap as your problem above.

Something is wrong at my end here - and I ponder if IceTV is the issue!

I did as you suggested - and with two back to back programs set to record - on the first one I manually set the 'hard' padding to be 15 mins - but at the end of the record - I got both programs with 4 mins padding either side.

The good news is they were programmed separately - the bad news is I only got 4 mins of padding!.

Damn IceTV - might try using it as a Guide - but stop the updating to see if that helps with the muck up with the padding!

    Cheers all the same,
    Col.

The option is available in both single and series, with shows running over time almost routinely it pays to hard pad everything.

If your using ICE TV interactive or related apps it might well be the issue. I remember there is a setting relating to padding. I have ICE but don't use any of the interactive apps.

I have it on authority from the official Australian Hauppauge distributor (via email) that some tuner cards people are getting from other sources are essentially foreign cards not suited for Australian conditions. in fact, a major brand VMC build company has been known to source cheap imports that are not designed specifically for the Australian market. please also keep this in mind if you have had problems getting more than 2 tuners to work. I wanted to post this in my original sticky thread but the forum denies access after so many days - also means I can't update data when it becomes available - which, quite frankly, is quite a pain!

You are right - I needed to look harder to find the setting for series.

OK - I get it now (I think)

Select your series recording. One of the menu options will be Record Settings, select this.

    Select Settings for series.

On that screen will be the setting to place hard padding.

If your using ICE TV interactive or related apps it might well be the issue. I remember there is a setting relating to padding. I have ICE but don't use any of the interactive apps.

ICE TV Remote unfortunately does not natively support the use of hard padding atm, only global soft-padding. I've asked for them to add a "global hard-padding" option but as with most of my requests it has fallen on deaf ears.

I personally use WebGuide to schedule series because when setting them up it is very easyt to add hard padding to a series and I can control my system the internet. B)

So If I understand you very wise gents correctly, my system with 5 tuners & a media center extender should be configured like this?:

    -----------------------Tuner 1-------Tuner 2------Tuner 3------Tuner 4-------Tuner 5
    Record Order--------4--------------3--------------2-------------1---------------0
    Record Pref----------0--------------0--------------0xffffffff------0xffffffff-------0xffffffff
    Watch Order---------0--------------1--------------2-------------3---------------4
    Watch Pref-----------0xffffffff------0xffffffff-------0-------------0---------------0

I think you've got it. I'm no expert with extenders, but from re-reading Logifuse's post I think that's the set-up.

Good news for those of use with lots of tuners and a VMCE extender or 2 this approach works perfectly - i tested it out last night and an issue I was having is now gonsky!
