MCE Reg Hacker - Record Padding
Hi Guys,
I know there is a sticky for this but i'm unable to post to it as it is so many days old, so this will have to do.
I see there are people with the same issue but no solution was posted in the sticky... perhaps this should change?
I am trying to increase the pre and post record time to 15 mins using the MCE Reg Hack tool from Monster to no avail. I PM'd Monster, but he must be up to his arm pits in developing another cool tool, so it is over to you guys.
I start the program up and select the record padding option and change both pre and post to 15 and click apply, the message at the bottom says it was successful, but it isn't, it just stays at 4 mins. I restarted MCE, didn't help, and neither did a reboot.
What am I missing?
Thanks guys

Re: MCE Reg Hacker - Record Padding
No matter what you change the padding to, anything over 4 minutes will revert to 4 minutes when you restart the PC or the MCE services (it's somthing coded in MCE).

Your only real options are to choose an advanced recording whenever you select to record something from the guide - that allows you to set hard padding for the particular recording (5, 10, 15, 30, 60 mins), or if you use IceTV as your EPG, their software has an option to set the soft padding (what you're trying to change) to a new default over 4 minutes (e.g. 15 minutes) - there are mixed reports about how well it works though.

Hi barnsey_00,
Just do as logifuse suggests, it only takes a couple of seconds to do and it works all the time. Anything else cannot be relied on.

Re: MCE Reg Hacker - Record Padding
I'm in the middle of working on a solution for this.
Basically I have an app that changes Recordings.xml to set the post-padding property to whatever you want (for every recording) and also sets the reg key value. I need to do some testing, but if it's scheduled to run a couple of times a day it should deal with MCE auto-reverting to 4 minutes.
Once I've tested it thoroughly and am happy I'll make it available here.

Re: MCE Reg Hacker - Record Padding
OK, if anyone's game enough to do some beta testing, you can download my softpadding solution here: http://benhughes.freehostia.com/mce/
So far it works for me in 90% of recordings - some times it reverts back to 4 minutes. I've had it running for a few weeks now, and the only hassle I had was a couple of corrupted recordings when I had it scheduled to run too frequently.
More than happy to get any feedback or provide what help I can if people have issues.
Ben
