Vista Video Library problems
I have recently did some upgrades to my HTPC and had to reinstall Vista, of course.

Now I have lots of folders in my Video Library and I went back to the post which has helped me last time:
http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/comm...tml#post123356
It did not work
I have //Media/D there, //Server/D and Local D drive. No matter what I do it is there.
Has anyone got some more tips on this issue.
It was so easy on 2005
why MS trying to make my life more miserable then it is already?

Re: Vista Video Library problems
Vlad,
I installed Vista Ult for the first time 2 days ago - initially had watched folders issues but as I had seen a few posts in the forum I knew there was going to be a problem.
My fix went something like this (may not suit all set ups, buts its as close to MCE05 as I could get). I just wanted pictures to show up in picture library and videos to show up in video library
1. I have a pretty simple filing system, photos in \\ nas\ Photos\year\topic, movies & dvds in \\ nas\ movies\ movie..., music in \\ nas\music cds \artist \ album
2. Don't use library setup in VMC at all.
3. If you have 2.above go into WMP, delete all music, vids pics etc from library (ensure that delete from computer tick box is not checked), go into library options, monitored folders, I have my rip music directory pointed straight to my music collection.
4. Remove any unwanted watched folders from list, click ignore all the others.
5. Do not add any additional folders, the rip music cds will already be in the list.
6. Click OK - WMP will only search the cd folders.
7. For pics and vids, I simply copied and pasted the folders I wanted as a shortcut folder into the \ users\yourusername\videos or pictures folder. These shortcuts then show up as folders in the pics and vids librar of VMC.
8. For DVD's I followed Astros guide to set up the show gallery hack, then went into the registry and edited HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Media Center\MediaFolders\Movie and added any additional locations where I have DVDs stored.
Hope this may be help

Re: Vista Video Library problems
Thanks Nudge.
That is basically what I did. Still have 4 stupid folders in Video Library
//Media/D
//Server/D
Local D
Local Recorded Video
It is not stopping me from doing what I want, but look untidy.

Re: Vista Video Library problems
Vlad,
Have you tried a search through the registry for those rogue directories to see if they pop up in any 'watched' registry list?

Re: Vista Video Library problems
Also use Media Player to remove the watched folders and add new ones. It seems to behave much better than doing it through Media Center.

Re: Vista Video Library problems
I had all kinds of problems with the video library until, after fooling around, I discovered that a root level directory, i.e. Local D, really screws things up. When I followed the instructions from the quoted thread and after removing the D drive from the watched folder list, if I added only folders on a drive rather than the drive itself, everything worked just fine.
At least in my case, VMC didnt like watching drives themselves, only folders on drives.

Re: Vista Video Library problems
Do you ever log in with another user? It's possible that the other users settings are screwing with your DB.. If you do, make sure you perform the same steps in WMP with that user too.
Also, I'm quite fond of the trick that uses the "Public Videos", "Public Photos" etc folders, and re-point them to the real directories on another disk.. Basically, you go into Properties of those directories on C:\Users\Public (I think, of the top of my head), and change their location to D:\Videos, D:\Photos etcIf my post has helped you, please feel free to hit the Thanks button.

Re: Vista Video Library problems
So I think there's only one thing left to do. Drive to your local airport and park in the long term car park. Proceed to the international terminal and purchase a ticket to Redmond. Take your flight. Once in Redmond go to the offices of Microsoft and ask for the person responsible for designing the watched folders concept. When that person appears hold him strongly by the neck and bash his head repeatedly against the nearest brick wall all the time repeating the word "NO".
It won't fix the problem but we will all feel much better!Bite Me!
