    Smile Looking for testers for MCE video conversion assistant (MCEBuddy free GPL)

    Hello all,
    I'm looking for testers for an MCE video conversion assistant (free GPL). It's implemented as a windows service and performs DVR-MS to Xvid/WMV/H.264 in a similar way to DVRMSToolbox or crunchie but is install-and-run (ie. simple and does not require any/much setup or configuration). Also handles thread priority (so it runs OK at the same time as MCE recording and viewing) and supports XP and Vista. If you are willing to give it a try, check it out at http://www.mcebuddy.com or drop me an email at mcebuddy@tyrell.com.au. Testing is more end user testing (ie. functionality) as this is not beta code.

    In case its not obvious, this is a free community application, not an attempt to make money or sell anything.

    Cheers

    Derek

    Great work Derek I really like the look of this ! I applaud your efforts sir!! A freeware app that does a super job and is also **easy to use** is a rare thing.

    To quote Derek's page:
    After using some good existing tools (notably DVRMSToolbox and Crunchie) I found they were quite capable for my own use, but did require some technical savvy. As such, they were not install and you're away applications for the average user. In addition the black art of video conversion is well beyond most people. So I thought I should put something back into the community and build an install-and-it-works application that was as bulletproof as I could make it then distribute it free under GPL.

    As someone bewildered with aforementioned apps...The non savvy people of the world are happy to hear someone is thinking of us

    cmd boxes scare me (im more partial to hardware)

    Im using it right now... and will do so for the next day... will let you know how it goes

    Looking good

    Definitely a must to install FFdshow... I had koepi's xvid codec and wasnt getting any video on output until I installed xvid under ffdshow.

    The ad scanning wasnt effective, but this isnt a big thing for me.(I didnt try show analyser)

    Otherwise conversions worked great and at a decent speed too.

    great stuff

    One query - is there any way to change this to make it only target files in a certain folder, eg. where I put all my edited dvrms/mpeg2 files ?? Id rather it plow through that folder rather than everything I recorded(more than half of which I delete)

    cheers

    I like it! But how about adding a MCE interface to it? Would be really nice to run inside of MCE as a "More Programs" app. (I like my remote.. keyboard+mouse sucks ) Is it doable?
    HTPC... najs!

    It's just the following conversio paths:

    DVRMS -> XVID
    DVRMS -> WMV
    DVRMS -> H264

    A> Ye, its do-able. I just don't have a lot of spare time. It is on the list. However, as its designed to be "install and forget", the value of this feature (after install and config) is fairly low. But I'll get there.

    Cheers
