is a pilot Electronic Programme Guide service developed by epgStream.net that provides guide information for your XP Media Center device. This Australian service is free for all registered members and is intended for personal, non-commercial use only.
There are some great solutions out there already providing Media Center guide information including paid services like IceTV and free solutions like BladeRunner Pro, EPGRunner, ozTiVo, etc. If we had to compare Free*EPG to any of these existing solutions it would be a closer match to an IceTV model, but as our core services develop and mature we see ourselves heading towards an OzTivo style open community.
It's important to note that our service is new and still under development, but very stable due to our development methodology. We only provide a 5-14 day guide updated every 3 days and detailed TV programme descriptions are available where possible!
NOV 2006 UPDATE: We now have integrated an ozTiVoDigital FTA stream into our Free*EPG gateway so you'll be able to get categories with episode and programme descriptions! After entering your postcode, when asked which guide you want to use, simply select "Free-To-Air Digital FTA (epgStream.net Free*EPG)" or "Free-To-Air Digital (ozTiVo FTA)" ... Oh and don't forget to say thanks to the ozTiVo guys!!!
DEC 2006 UPDATE: We couldn't help ourselves and we just had to integrate the ozTiVoFoxtel, OptusTV and AUSTAR stream into our Free*EPG gateway! All the subscription viewing information your eyeballs can handle simply by selecting which Foxtel, Optus or AUSTAR package you are using ... Thanks again ozTiVo!!!
OCT 2007 UPDATE: We've upgraded our current Free-To-Air Digital (epgStream.net Free*EPG) listings and created a hybrid feed based on various sources (ozTiVo included). Check it out and see if you can spot the new features!
If you'd like to see a feature developed in Free*EPG or you'd like to volunteer your services, then let us know and we'll see what we can do! Just give us a little time and we'll provide you with a great service!
Support
All support questions will be handled here at xpmediacentre.com.au so just post your question or problem and we'll try and respond as soon as possible.
If you've got a super-personal question you have to ask and you're embarrassed to post it in the forum, then you can email us directly on free-epg@epgstream.net.
Installation
All you'll need to do is visit www.epgstream.net and run our ClickOnceFree*EPG Setup application using Internet Explorer and you're away! Check out how easy it is to install and configure Free*EPG by downloading our XP Media Center installation guide here (1.64MB).
A big thanks to Mike for doing such a great job running and maintaining this top notch community and setting up this forum for us to use!
Thanks,
The epgStream [Super Keen Dream] Team

Well, the replacement SSD has been working fine for several days now.
Truth be known, it seems I was just unlucky to get a failure shortly after installation. I've never had a hardware failure...
UPDATE:
I have reverted back to Duffy's instructions and have the PC booting into XBMC and the xfce4 desktop. I have fixed the suspend.sh and appswitch.pl paths and they work. On/Off via remote...
