Re: DVI-HDMI with analog sound (not working with Nvidia drivers)

I am having the exact same issue.

My Motherboard is an Asus M2N-VM DVI and has an integrated Nvidia 7050 Video card.

My TV is an Olevia 242FHD-T11 42" LCD HDTV 1080p

Everything has worked perfectly. My HTPC is definitely putting out analog Audio (Checked with headphones) and the audio works with VGA+Analog Audio inputs

But once I use a DVI-to-HDMI adapter (or Cable, I tried both) there is no audio.

Unfortunately my motherboard doesn't have a SPDIF audio header for the video card, just one for the Soundcard Front-of-case header, so i can't try the fix some of you have put on here.

I dont have a MB like this with me, but look at pages 1-7 and 1-30 of the User's manual. Left from the floppy connector there's a SPDIF-OUT. I believe you will unfortunetly have to purchase a video card with SPDIF-IN, instead of using the onboard one.

Re: DVI-HDMI with analog sound (not working with Nvidia drivers)

*** WORKAROUND FOUND ***

There's a way you can configure the NVidia driver (prior to installing it) to override/ignore that it 'discovers' an HDMI connection, and thus NOT send digital audio through the DVI connector (obviously requires that you can and DO use an external analog audio cable). This solves the problem for those of us with HDTV's that auto-sense HDMI/analog audio (mine's an Olevia 237T) and have nVidia graphics (mine's a 7100/630i motherboard w/integrated graphics). I found this originally at http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?s...=&#entry330319 - although it was being used for a different purpose - but I can certainly vouch that it works!

Here are the steps in full (rewritten by me)... You need to have your PC hooked up to your TV, so the EDID discoverer can get your display's ID code:

1. Get Phoenix EDID Designer, (http://www.tucows.com/preview/329441), unzip and run the exe (no install reqd)
2. Click Tools->Extract registry EDID, then double click the line for your TV/monitor in the popup
3. Click Tools->Byte viewer, and note down the values in row 00, columns 08-0B (4 bytes)
4. Start the installation of the latest Nvidia drivers and cancel out once the files are extracted
6. Open the file "nv_disp.inf" in a text editor. By default for the current drivers this is in C:\NVIDIA\...\169.21
7. Scroll down to the section [nv_SoftwareDeviceSettings], add the following line there, replacing the "XX" values below with the 4 values noted in step 3:

HKR,, OverrideEdidFlags0, %REG_BINARY%, XX,XX,XX,XX,00,00,FF,FF,04,00,00,00,7E,01,00

(In my case the TV code was SYN 0043, the four values being: 4F,2E,43,00 )

4. Uninstall your current drivers and reboot
5. Install the modified drivers by running the previously extracted setup.exe. By default for the current drivers, this is in C:\NVIDIA\...\169.21. You'll get a warning about the driver not being signed because of the modified inf. Just press OK.

Reboot, and you should have GLORIOUS AUDIO!!!

Thumbs up Re: DVI-HDMI with analog sound (not working with Nvidia drivers)

Thanks for this workaround. It's a shame we even have to do this but until nVidia's implementation of HDMI is better this will do.

Just an observation, I followed your instructions exactly, but was not presented with the driver warning. Upon reboot, same old issue with analog audio being disabled.

I checked everything, added the line to the top of the section, removed as many dlls and .sys files relating to the (uninstalled) nVidia drivers as I could, and ran setup again. I received the driver signing warning and the whole thing worked. Not sure which step fixed the issue, but I'm happy for now.

Re: DVI-HDMI with analog sound (not working with Nvidia drivers)

Greetings to All. This my first post in this forum. I am appreciative of the work of fellow members with the audio problems on the integrated nvidia boards. I have an EVGA NF77 630i chipset with 7150 GPU customized with the HDMI connector. My television is a Sony widescreen with superfine pitch tube. Yes to video, no to audio.
I assume that in the work around , the onboard realtek HD audio was enabled. I also assume that its drivers were current recognized fully in windows mixer as defaults.
There exists a specific HDMI audio driver for the onboard HDMI HD audio that this is enabled in the bios (latest 1.6). Can one uninstall only the the display driver? Prior to installing the modded instruction set. I noticed that the diver was version 169.21 ,Has anyone had success with more recent ones,( I presume the same step by step edit is required). I hope that I covered all the parameters. Forgiveme , there alot of people in the dark on the gravity of these problems. Any help appreciated Thank you.

Re: DVI-HDMI with analog sound (not working with Nvidia drivers)

+1 for me on exactly the same problem.

Chaintech 8800GT, nvidia drivers vs175.16
Sony Bravia 32" KLV-32s310

I had a Gigabyte 6600GT with driver vs169."something" before I got the 8800GT and I did not have one single problem.
I used a DVI-HDMI cable and the 3.5mm to stereo RCA cable going to HDMI2 on the Sony.

I am so frustrated with this problem (and another problem I have with the s-video to RCA option not working, but that's a thread on its own)

What I did in the meantime was to take the audio to my 5.1 surround system.

I will try the SPDIF route this week, but my problem is it seems my mobo doesn't have the SPDIF pins.
Luckily my soundcard(Creative Soundblaster Audigy 4) has SPDIF support, but I think I would have to make a 3.5mm little cable and feed it back into the box.

Anyone got any tips?

Re: DVI-HDMI with analog sound (not working with Nvidia drivers)

Thanks Meq123 for the workaround.....

Same story here - new Gigabyte 8600GT card, Sony KDL-40X3100 - HDMI cable and Gigabyte P35C-DSR3 Motherboard, and my VISTA install.

Managed to find the Phoenix Edid application here:

http://www.softsea.com/review/Phoeni...-Designer.html

I used the latest Nvidia drivers (175.19) PQ is excellent.

Quite perplexing until my wife said: "why don't you ask some of your nerd friends on the internet" and sure enough I wasn't alone!

Now I have a nice new gold plated 3.5mm to RCA cable for my troubles (I thought the old one was broken!)

system:
silverlight an 17 case, 4*80mm fans, 6 HDD capicity, 4 front, 4 rear usb.
amd tri core (5120 something) 2.3gig@

wireless pci
MCE remote and keyboard
primary 160 gig hdd, recorded TV 1*400 gig hdd, backup 1*500 gig hdd(eventually 2*500 Raid 0,maybe also 2*400 gig raid backup)
DVI to HDMI(originally vga)
SHARED 256 megs graphics card from HD720 mobo nvidia 750 series.

originally i had VGA to VGA on my LG 42" LCD(older single hdmi, inbuilt HD tuner and 1348*768 resolution) and standard 3.5mm mic jack(green) to TV, all worked OK,but resolution constant changed, and i lost picture, spent 70 bucks on DVI to HDMI plug...fantastic picture on 1220*720 setting for nvidia.BUT NO SOUND.
i RESORTED TO USING MIC 3.5MM JACK TO AUX on my pioneer amp, it gives good 2channel sound..only 2 RCA jacks in...

Re: DVI-HDMI with analog sound (not working with Nvidia drivers)

Hi everyone.

I just installed a S/PDIF cable from my mobo to my 8800 gt and wha-la.. sound on the hdmi TV again via DVI -> HDMI.

Thanks for the tips above, without this forum I don't think I would have figured it out.

I have a 680i sli mobo and dual XFX 8800 gt cards. Neither the MOBO nor the XFX 8800 gt state anywhere in the documentation that they have SPDIF out/in. I took the advice of a poster ddso.01 and I purchased a CD-ROM drive SPDIF cable (it works fine, which is good because the video card didn't come with the cable) and hooked it up as he described. My connection is DVI out to HDMI in.

I am surprised by the problem since my old ATI card worked fine with analog audio, and the main reason I switched to nvidia was to avoid shoddy drivers...

I am also surprised that it worked since I thought DVI was video only, but I am not complaining

Thanks again guys.
