Re: DVI-HDMI with analog sound (not working with Nvidia drivers)
What model 8400GS are you using?
I haven't seen a model with a SPDIF passthrough, and none have onboard sound processing like the ATIs, so I'm wondering how your passing the sound through HDMI.

OK well im not sure if sound is being passed through.. but whats happening is since I've gone to the 8400GS (as opposed to my old 6600GT) the HDMI works great but my tv is just not getting the the analogue audio from the HTPC via a '3.5mm>Stereo RCA cable'.

Re: DVI-HDMI with analog sound (not working with Nvidia drivers)
Please, dont let this thread die until the problem is solved. I looked every where, and this was the best thread about this.
I have the same problem with a XFX GeForce 8600 GTS, ForceWare version 169.25, and a 32'' Samsung LCD TV (LN32R81B). I'm waiting for a reply from XFX about this. When I get it, I'll post in here.
Re: DVI-HDMI with analog sound (not working with Nvidia drivers)
Could this be a HDCP issue?
Also when installing the driver is it automatically selecting the graphics cards audio device (if it has one)?
I know it is only meant to be a video issue.
Re: DVI-HDMI with analog sound (not working with Nvidia drivers)
I am still talking to XFX about this and they asked me if I had connected the SPIDF pins on my video card. No I didnt! There really is a 2-pin SPIDF-IN in the card, next to the SLI interface. I took some pictures.
My MoBo is an Asus P5NSLI, witch also has a 3-pin SPIDF-OUT, next to an expansion card slot. I took a picture as well.
The problem is no cable came with the card to connect this.
The way I understood it, you have to connect the card with this cable to the MoBo, and selected the SPIDF-OUT as the default playback device.
If this single cable resolves the sound issue, then I am very disapointed wich XFX. How can a cable as important as this dont come in the box?
I was already disapointed with the fact that the auxiliary power cable didnt came within, and now this.
Re: DVI-HDMI with analog sound (not working with Nvidia drivers)
I worked. I used the SPDIF cable from the CD drive.
This is what you have to do:
1. Use the cable to connect the SPDIF-IN on the video card to the SPDIF-OUT on the Mobo.
2. Go to Control Panel, "Hardware and Sound", "Manage Audio Devices" and select the SPDIF device as the default playback device.
3. Connect your card to the TV using a DVI-HDMI cable. You dont need the analog sound cable, only the DVI-HDMI cable.
Voilá! There is sound on my TV again.
I am waiting for a reply from XFX saying if its possible to use the analog sound, instead of using SPDIF. I´ll post here when I get it.
Re: DVI-HDMI with analog sound (not working with Nvidia drivers)
Hi All, Just had the same problem with sound on my shuttle SS30G2 media pc and xfx gforce 8600GTS, the above fix has now got my sound working via hdmi, also before this card I had a sapphire HD2600 that would not work at all via hdmi, as advertised. No matter what I did. The blu-ray playback via powerdvd was rubbish aswell, that is why I chose the nvidia card. Also for reference the cd sound cable works a treat, you only need to use the red and black (next to each other), on my shuttle red was nearest the front of the pc, the 1st pin out of six (normally 3 for spdif in and 3 for spdif out) the black was the 2nd, on the graffix card you have 2 pins, and as on the mobo, red was nearest the front of the pc and black behind. Hope this info helps and saves confusion (to a certain degree).
Thanks to all for your input.

Re: DVI-HDMI with analog sound (not working with Nvidia drivers)
This is what I got from XFX:
[Daniel - 01/05/2008] I have a LN32R81B Samsung LCD TV and used a DVI-D/HDMI cable to connect it to my video card. The TV has a HDMI input design for use with this kind of cable, once the sound input is separated. I used a a cable to connect my sound card to this input. I did this with previous video card (an Asus 7600GT), and it worked. But now, with this new video card, the TV has no sound. The image is ok, but there is no sound. If I connect the sound card directly to a speaker, there is sound. If I connect the sound card to the TV, but using another input (the DVD input, for instance), there is sound. So, this is really between the video card and the TV. Can you guys help? Thanks a lot.
[BRIAN - 01/08/2008] Hi Daniel, it sounds like the spdif wires are not hooked up right on the card. Do you have the white wire connected to the pin with a white triangle next to it? If so, then it there should be sound going to the HDMI cable. Are you use a dvi to hdmi cable or dvi to hdmi adapter with a straight hdmi cable? Let us know. Thanks brian.
[Daniel - 01/08/2008] Hi Brian, thanks for the reply. Well, there is no white cable here. There are SPDIF-IN pins in the card, but no cable came within the card to connect it. The only way to have sound on my tv is connecting those pins to the SPDIF-OUT on my MoBo? There is no way to use the analog sound connection? If so, why didnt this cable came with the card? I am using a DVI-HDMI cable (a DVI-D connector at one end and a HDMI connector at the other).
[WILLIAM - 01/15/2008] Hello Daniel, Sometimes these cables are provided with the graphics card and sometimes with the motherboard I`m unsure exactly why you didn`t receive one but they should only be like $1.99 at a local electronics store. Basically you conenct the spi/dif cable to the video card and the audio is passed through the hardware and then through your connection to your television. This will allow for the sound to work. William.
