X800 Running LCD + HDTV and DVD Playback Issue

Hi,

I'm running an X15e case with internal LCD touchscreen, I've installed the latest ATI drivers running the internal screen at 1024x768 and cloning the HDTV output via component output (ATI X800 chipset). I'm assuming I have an overscan issue to the projector (Sony VPL-VW11HT) but am unable to fix this via PowerStrip as it only see's the device being the primary as the output is cloned via the secondary (running 1080i).

The other issue is upon DVD playback I only get playback on the LCD and not on the cloned output.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Regards, Richard.

Re: X800 Running LCD + HDTV and DVD Playback Issue

Richard,

I have a Radeon 9600 which i am also driving dual displays from.
I have set to use Extened Desktop and run MCE in Full Screen mode on the TV side to leave the monitor free. Using catalyst 5.6, havent tried v5.7 yet. No Powerstrip installed.

Works fine with DVD playback using Cyberlink Decoder.

You should be able to run different resolutions to both displays this way.

Maybe try just using Extend Desktop to begin with and see if this fixes your problem.

Talking Re: X800 Running LCD + HDTV and DVD Playback Issue

Hi Magz,

Thanks for the post. I completely agree that setting it to extended desktop will indeed solve a lot of my issues as then I would be able to set a specific setting for the projector but I need to be running clone mode and not extended desktop as this case does have an internal LCD touchscreen so what I'm trying to achieve is what is displayed on the LCD is also on the projector simultaneously. Pretty much so you can just use the LCD for music, etc without turning on the projector and when the LCD is turned off and projector is on you just interact with that (probably the long winded way of explaining it).

From memory when I had the ATI card installed in extended desktop mode I could select the different HDTV standards, albeit still with an overscan issue @ 1080i but then I could've used PowerStrip to rectify the problem as it recognizes it as two separate monitors and not a single. I've now bought an NVIDIA 6600GT to try and rectify the issues as it does have overscan adjustments, but again if using clone mode instead of extended desktop any changes made happen to both the LCD and projector (which then makes the LCD not usuable). You can see why I've pulled out most of my hair!

Regards, Richard.

Re: X800 Running LCD + HDTV and DVD Playback Issue

I just put the X800 card back in the machine. Theatre mode is specifically for cloning and not extended desktop (from what I can understand), this doesn't fix the DVD playback issue, in fact when the DVD starts playing it's fine on the LCD but the output to the projector ceases to function (no input). You are right though, putting the card into dual head (ie extended desktop) fixes the issue of overscanning but am unable to have both pictures the same so I'm assuming when it's cloned it's only cloning the main LCD @ 1024x768 to the projector too.

If I'm losing the plot and seem to be confused... I probably am... been at this for 2 weeks now.

Thanks, was worth a shot!

Re: X800 Running LCD + HDTV and DVD Playback Issue

Hiya Wayne,

The quick answer is no, can't be done. I havn't let this problem go and am still trying to find a solution. Hopefully at some stage a LCD that can sync at HDTV quality that's "cheap" will be released but still no ETA from the manufacturers.

My unit I don't use the LCD internally and just run the external projector at HDTV quality.
