Logitech Harmony 880 Problem

Hi - not sure if this is the correct forum, but I'm about ready to scream at Logitech, so I hope one of you guys can help me!

I bought a Logitech Harmony 880 a while back and it rocks. I recently purchased a new TV - Sony Bravia KLV V40A10. The Logitech database had the TV as an entry and I downloaded all the new IR codes to the remote. Everything works EXCEPT the InputHDMI option. It's there, and every other input code works, just not that one. The HDMI channel is the one I watch TV on, so the remote is now effectively useless.

I ran it past Logitech who denied that there was any problem with their database and suggested I configure a multi-step code which opens the screen menu and cycles through the options to the correct channel. Interesting idea, but I can think of better ways of growing old.....

Uufortunately there's no button on the remote to go directly to HDMI, so the remote can't learn the command.

Has anyone encountered something like this before?

Re: Logitech Harmony 880 Problem

Yes and it's actually not that hard to add the command. You have 8 soft buttons (and they expand to some greater number - I think the most I have is about 3 screens of soft buttons).

I can provide the steps if you can't follow the online "wizard" but just create the "soft" button and make the request of the remote to learn the command from your Bravia remote.

BTW, you can return the favour as I have a client who wishes to purchase the Bravia and I'm looking for a good source / distributor / price.

Look forward to hearing how you go and getting your Bravia supply info.

Regards,
Larry

Re: Logitech Harmony 880 Problem

Hey Larry - sorry, I'm not 100% sure what you mean. Are you talking about creating a soft button which can go straight to the HDMI input? As opposed to invoking the onscreen menu, or navigating to the previous input and then using the InputNext command?

Well, if you can send me through the steps that would be vastly appreciated. I'd love to have it up and running again (as would my wife, who feels sold out now that our remote collection has gone from one to five!).

And yes I'll be more than happy to provide some info. I bought the TV about three months ago so the pricing information will have changed, though.

James

Re: Logitech Harmony 880 Problem

i have the exact same problem same tv same everything . and yes the command isnt working . for the reply above u cannot copy a comand to a button, as there isnt a HDMI input button on the remote . There is only a toggle input button . I think u can just make it input that button twice, which if u are on COMP1 watching TV u will get to the HDMI input but this does not work (pressing the INPUT button twice) if u are not 2 cycles away from the HDMI input. lol sounds complicated but yes stupid by logitech. anyone alse with ideas as im also haveing this problem ???? Cheers

EDITED
ok thaught of something thats working for me

1. Map your INPUT KEY ( the key u use to cycle through inputs) into the TV
maped key page call it "MapedInput" or something.

2. Go to what ever device setup u want to use the HDMI input go customise get to the input page.

3. Make a custom input ( by putting a name in a blank space. then click NEXT.

4. Set your custom button to " u press more commands" ( so u can set it to send 2 signals .

5. Set the 1st signal to be the one in the cycle before your HDMI input, Then set the second signal to be sent the "MapedInput" key u made before ( it should be towards the bottom if its the newest button.

Click Next . and your done this should now Work . Enjoi hehe

Re: Logitech Harmony 880 Problem

So do you mean that you've set it up to go to the HD2 channel and then use InputNext to get to HDMI? It's an interesting solution, but it would really be great to be able to go straight to HDMI.

Damn this is annoying!

Re: Logitech Harmony 880 Problem

Hey Seamas77,

i have the 40" Bravia V as well as the Logitech 520,

i've been able to set it all up perfectly now and initially had the same problem as you with the discreet inputs not working.

For me to get to the HDMI input i get my controller to select HD2 and then "inputnext". At the moment this is the only way that i am aware of.

also HD1 does not go to that input for some unknown reason, instead it brings up the Wegagate option. I think Logitech should double check their database since there are a few commands that aren't doing what they are supposed to

Re: Logitech Harmony 880 Problem

Hmmm - there IS another option, but I don't know how successful it might be.

All we really need is a way to go straight to HDMI, and the problem is that the Sony remote doesn't have a direct way to get there.

SO.....if you could get hold of something like the .ccf file or the discrete codes, and use another universal remote (like Pocket PC software), THEN you could teach it to the Harmony.

I've been in touch with Sony Australia and they don't have any discrete codes they can hand out. Now it's back to Logitech and dealing with the beauracracy.....

Re: Logitech Harmony 880 Problem

Guys,

i have the exact isssue with my Panasonic DMR-E85 HDD-DVD recorder. I thought i solved the problem by giving the unit to my parents. Then my dad went and bought the same remote (880) so the problem landed back in my lap. I acheived what i needed to do by going to the last channel then hitting input next as many times needed to get to the correct input. It works however if younger kids try to use it they forget to hold the remote up until it has finished getting to the input. it can take some time. I have to access input4 on the panasonic and that can take about 5 seconds. There has to be an easier way. I'm sure the discrete codes exist. With todays home auto world taking off, manufacturers should be providing us with more technical interface information on their products. A full list of IR codes as an appendix is not much to ask.!!

Re: Logitech Harmony 880 Problem

Hang tight people - I've been able to use some contacts to get in touch with the Logitech developers. I've sent the exact nature of the problem through, and hopefully we'll see some action shortly.

Re: Logitech Harmony 880 Problem

Hey thats Great News. Hopfully they will listen and further improve an already great product. This is one of the best remotes i have used that doesn't cost the earth so I'm keen to help promote it and also help logitech identify and possible improvements. This issue is very common. My father also has a Samsung Plasma. It is almost imposible to get it to select the component input.

Regards
