Toshiba A8 to Lg plasma

i recently tried to connect dad's laptop to his plasma LG 40" 768? resolution panel. set the laptop to the same 768 resolution used the function F5 key to change to what should be a plasma screen going by the icons on the laptop and changed the LG to the correct AV input but all I got was a blank screen. no matter what i tried, changing the resolution on the laptop, different functions on the laptop, playing with setting on the LG, i was unable to get anything other that a blank screen.

would i be correct to assume that the video card on the laptop is unable to power the plasma.
