Windows Mobile 6 as a Sideshow device

Does anyone have a mobile/pda with WM6 set up as a Sideshow device for their Vista MCE? My Vista MCE is connected to a projector so if I want to listen to music in my lounge room its a bit of a hassle to turn on my projector and leave it on for a while. I'm considering buying a WM6 phone so I can use it as a Sideshow device and use it to browse my music library and select what to play, all without turning the projector on.

I don't know if Vista comes with the Sideshow gadgets that let you control Media Player or Media Center, or if they come shipped with the Sideshow device. Another option is that I wait for the Ricavision Sideshow remote, which comes with its own gadgets. I'm keen to hear if anyone has had any success with a WM6 pda/phone though.

Aha! Glad to see I'm not the only one with this issue.

I have also considered the Ricavision remote, but in the absence of any worthwhile reviews at the time I ordered some Sonos gear.

Might be a workable alternative for you (I can tell you, WAF is v-e-r-y high with this kit!).

Cheers

Re: Windows Mobile 6 as a Sideshow device

Last I checked the sideshow enable WM6 PDAs hadnt hit the market yet...(eg, The I-mate Ultimate series)...neither had the ricavison remotes...

why dont give webguide a go

once youve set it up you can access Music, TV, guide, videos from your PDAs browser ANYWHERE, not just your house. At home of course, you need a wifi setup to make it work.

It even has a vista remote in it.... but I must admit....I found that pretty slow.

I love webguide Its gadget is awesome....Im watching the soccer I taped earlier today, launched straight from the gadget

btw - there are some reports around that there will be an app that will allow you to enable MS gadgets within PDA.... I wonder if this will transfer over to sideshow gadgets as well...

Re: Windows Mobile 6 as a Sideshow device

www.CalculatorKing.com.au in Melbourne and Organiser World (www.ow.com.au) have some WM6 devices in stock (a HTC Touch and a Dopod C730W). Also, the O2 Atom Life is now available and O2 have a free WM6 download for that mobile on their website. I don't know if any of these support sideshow though.

I tried webguide and it lets you play albums and songs but doesn't work with playlists (at least the version I tried two months ago didn't). Also, after installing webguide I started noticing wierd things happening to my Vista MCE. It would wake up at odd times throughout the day and would never automatically go back into S3 suspend mode.

nope...wm6 devices can't be used as sideshow devices as yet. what you're probably looking for is the niveus remote http://www.niveusmedia.com/products/remote.html which will work with wm5.

I will also put in a vote for Webguide. It has a remote control feature. I do not use it very much, but it sounds like it may be ideal for you.

Another option is Rudeo Control for MCE http://www.rudeo.com/mce.htm I haven't tried it with VMC yet, but worked great on my MCE box.
