The Micro$oft Zune

ok has anyone been seriously looking at getting one of these? They don't get the best of right ups but I'm so over iPod this that and the bloody other I just thought some other company out there might have a serious contender for those bloody i this that and the other.

They're available her at a reasonable price:

Damn being at home all day with time on my hand. It gives me to much time to surf the bloody web.

Re: The Micro$oft Zune

I'd love one... but I want a 16 * 9 screen, with good integration to my media box... preferably able to play dvr-ms files without conversion, so I can quickly take a recording from the previous day to work and watch at lunch time (or boring meeting!)

According to engadget and other sites, new v2 of Zune coming out soon - so maybe the prices on these older ones are going to start dropping to clear stocks...

Not exactly a terrible price either around the same price as Ipod and has radio built in

iRiver and SanDisk also have new devices coming out very soon. I contacted both companies and they say in their usual "marketing" way that we should hold out to "later" in the year for Australian releases.

Re: The Micro$oft Zune

Have you looked at the Toshiba Gigabeat? I'm pretty happy with mine. It looks a bit MCE-ish and has either a 30GB or 60GB HDD built in.

Only downsides:
  • I haven't been able to get sync to work properly.
  • It only plays wmv for video.
  • If you contact Toshiba support to ask about syncing with MCE they have no idea what you're talking about.

These aren't biggies for me as I only convert the occasional TV show and just convert to wmv using another program.

LOL - I know what you mean, but it does sound worse than it is. I haven't tried syncing recorded TVunder Vista, so perhaps it's OK now, and syncing music has always been OK.

I use it mainly for music and it does a great job. The occasional video I can convert without too much effort and it plays weel.

Like impact, I would have liked to see a 16:9 screen, though.

Re: The Micro$oft Zune

I use my Palm Lifedrive for all of those things (including 16:9 playback). The only things I can't play are WMVs and DVR-MS.

I know it's a PDA and not a dedicated device, but I get 5 hours of video playback on AVIs that I have either created myself or sourced on the net. Its got 4gb on board and an SD card with the same. More than enough room for everything I require.

E.E.
