Pocket PC

Ok I know I have posted threads as such before. But this is for my father in law with a significant budget increase (up to and over $1000 AUD)

So I need the following:
- Wifi
- GPS
- Bluetooth
- USB host

Anything spring to mind?

Re: Pocket PC

I have an O2 XDA Atom. It was a bit flakey when first released but with the latest updates it's up there with the best. It doesn't have GPS natively but it's supported and I'm reasonably sure you can find a third party solution.

Re: Pocket PC

I like the I-mate kJAM devices.

The only problem I see is that they don't have GPS. They do have bluetooth, so an external GPS receiver could be used.

The device is a smart phone and models are available for both GPRS and 3G

Full qwerty slide out keyboard makes data entry nice and easy despite the slightly smaller screen.

For me you just cant go past the Asus A636N (or A639) .

This unit absolutely rocks!

Bluetooth 2.0
Wifi 802.11b and G
Built in GPS and SIRF antenna

All this for $500 with a 400mhz pro and great battery life!

Matt

I would definitely stay away from PDA Phones if he's not interested in the phone. Personally I reckon there's no integrated Phone/PDA on the market yet that is up to my expectations. I'm happy with the Atom because I reckon it's as good as anything currently available but in truth I believe they're all a bit dissappointing in terms of what they can actually do. Windows Mobile is getting closer to the mark but in my experience where phones are concerned WM devices really don't have that rock solid feel and ease of use you get when you pick up a Nokia. My previous phone was a Treo and it was just as bad in a package that was nearly twice the size. There just doesn't seem to be a good and reliable input method other than a keypad and having a full kwerty keyboard either makes the device too bulky or means you have a tiny screen or both. I have to say if I didn't need to carry around a PDA I'd just go back to my trusty old 6610!
