Austar Remote control really slow

When i use the Austar through a composite input it makes the remote control really really slow. When i set it up it said the ir speed was "fast" but you cant scroll through the channels smoothly because it takes ages for the information to change.

Also the picture quality is crap. Would i be better of using a direct SVideo from the austar box to the Tuner? Even though it still just plugs into an adapter that plugs into the card.
