how do u setup foxtel through vista mce

Hi there
Today I got a new analogue antenna installed today and set up for by a qualified TV technician he also set a digital signal to run through my vista mce and setup a analogue signal to run through the digital signal so I can get the
Foxtel guide in my vista mce he told me to scan for channels and all that came up was digital and HD channels so
he said try channel 41 but that was not there either so he told me to scan again to get analogue channels but that didn’t work either I am using
Ice TV guide to get my guide listings so does anyone know how I can get the foxtel guide working on my vista mce or do I have to uninstall ice TV and run another guide to get the foxtel guide listings up and running

As a tip, look for the "Edit" button to fix up a post if you make an error.

mike 21,

Yes both digital and analogue signals co exist on the antenna cable. In MCE you will need to have both a digital tuner for digital TV and an analogue TV to get Foxtel the way you are describing. This is not native for MCE and requires some playing around (there are stickies on site on how to do it). MCE by default runs with either digital or analogue tuners, not both together.

Not sure about the ICE TV guide and Foxtel, I'll leave that to an ICETV user. You can certainly do the combined guide using Fee*EPG and OzTVio though.

Mike21, sorry you took a friendly bit of advice as picky and felt the need to point that out. I'll leave you in peace and let someone else help you out if they so choose. Bye.

Re: how do u setup foxtel through vista mce

IceTV do not provide a foxtel guide. If you would like FTA digital and a foxtel guide together, you will need to use something like epgstream (http://www.epgstream.net/)

Read this thread for a guide on how to get FTA (digital) and Foxtel working together in MCE DTV and Analog TV Works (TOGETHER)

Re: how do u setup foxtel through vista mce

I recommend you give wixkidders guide a miss. It isnt exactly user friendly. Dizzy's thread did a decent job of summarising...

before you even start that though >> here are some things to consider
1. you need a card with an analogue tuner which supports hardware mpeg2 encoding. There are many "digital and analogue" hybrid cards out there, not many have h-mpeg2. Until you have this, you neednt bother. Even with software encoder workarounds, the capture will look rubbish, like a glorified youtube vid !

2. become familiar with EPG setup using freeEPG. it is available at the epgstream address berx listed above >> please note, you will need to create a user account first(free) Getting EPG right is very finicky in a DTV+ATV setup. And yes, IceTV is useless for foxtel setups.

You will also need to make sure you have the registry fixes installed that will stop youre guide from corrupting.

It probably sounds like alot, and it woudl be for a new user...ist one of the more advanced (and wonderful) things one can pull off with alot of reading, and patience

let us know what card you have and have a go at EPG setup. Even if your analogue tuner isnt appropriate, you can at least get the EPG going for your DTV(the reg fixes are equally important whether you use ICE or freeEPG).... of course freeEPG is FREE, yet some people still use ICE

good luck
