Inventa Australia's Fire DTV

Hi All,

Not sure if this is the right place for this thread. From what I have been reading of late, I am under the understanding that Pay TV such as AUSTAR and FOXTEL is not able to be displayed on a PC with a Purple Cam card anymore (Austar regional added more security disabling many 3rd party STBs from displaying a picture).

Searching the Web I came across Inventa Australia's Fire DTV http://groupaware.com.au/index.php/v...uct-flyer.html .
The impression I get from this article is that u can connect it to a MediaCenter PC and recieve Terrestrial, Digital and Pay TV (through a cam card) via firewire. Multiple units can be connected to allow recording of one channel while watching another.

This is a link to an example of a Myth TV setup.

Has anyone tried this setup and if so is it any good?

I did a search in this site but couldnt find any info, sorry if this has been discussed before.

Paul.

Re: Inventa Australia's Fire DTV

Hi All,

Have just been looking around at some sites re: Fire DTV. Didnt realise how old the unit was (Jan 2005). Therefore probably wont work with Pay TV anymore.

no Sat cards in australia for a computer work with foxtel/austar.

All you can do is feed it through an analog card into MCE

It worth qualifying that there are DVBS cards that work well *natively* within vMCE> like the floppyDTV/S2. >> I had one until recently. Or also the BlackGold tri hybrid 3450.

The only problem is the NDS encryption. Im currently not aware of what the status of NDS 'hackage' is, but it Im sure we would have heard about it if it had been done

The other important restriction is that DVBS cannot coexist with DVBT in vMCE, though the word is this may be rectified(finally) in Fiji. Who knows.

Unlike euro/US dvbs users, who have imminent vmce integration solutions, this is unlikely here, simply because foxtel/austar want to flog as many of their recorders as poss

The cap via analogue is the easiest, cheapest atm... It will be a shame though when there is a shift toward HD in payTV...an analogue cap wouldnt do it justice
