STB with VMC without IR remote?

Hi all,

Apologies, I'm sure that a question of this kind has been asked here before, but after some searching I couldn't find much recent information.

I'm using Vista Media Centre, and am trying to configure the TV component for use with Pace dc621ku STB.

When configuring my Tv-tuner card (hauppauge hvr1100), I can use Media Centre to correctly identify the composite channel as signal source, and I can view the signal in a thumbnail window on that same screen.

However, the next setup-step attempts to configure an IR device to allow MC to control my STB (I presume?) This poses a problem for me, I do not have any IR devices attached to my pc apart from the hauppauge remote control. Instead, I use a Microsoft wireless entertainment keyb/mse 7000 (bluetooth)

Setup fails when trying to detect an IR receiver, which I obviously do not have.
Is there a way to proceed with setup without IR and just use my blootooth devices?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Jim

Hi +jim, welcome to our forums.

I have dleted you other posting of this as it was a duplicate. Please avoid posting the same question in multiple forums as it just ends up confusing everyone, answers get spread around and no-one can follow what's been said where in the end.

Hope someone can answer your question in this forum.

Cheers

GlenR

Jim

It is trying to learn the IR commands, this will only happen via the MS IR receiver.
As far as I have read, you will need to connect an MS IR receiver to get past this point.
Once you have got past this you may be able to remove the MS reciever, but obviously you won't get automated channel change.

Re: STB with VMC without IR remote?

I'm currently battling with Foxtel STB and I think I have it fixed now. You need a USB IR transceiver that consists of a USB receiver for signals from an (included) Universal Remote Control device and an IR output port on teh transceiver. The output port is a small "bud" transmitter that I have sticky-taped in front of the receiver on my Foxtel STB. With MCE you input the button-presses via the IR receiver using your Foxtel remote using the "teach" methods of the TV setup in MCE. Then when you use the Guide it will send out the appropriate IR signals via teh transmitter to your STB. IOW you do need the transceiver and URC to make your setup work correctly.
