New to foxtel - Few noob questions

Just got the basic foxtel installed.
Im needing to start recording it, will my happauge WinTV PVR 150 do the job?

Also what software should i use to record foxtel with? i was hoping to use Webschedular but it only support digital. So what are my options? can i just use the software that happauge offer? or is there something better?

Now im about confused on how this will work. Will the analouge card see all the channels and be able to change channel with out me needing to do it from the foxtel box? or will i have to set the channel first for it to record.

Im also looking for a means to automate alot of the recording and conversion process.
Thanks for your help

Re: New to foxtel - Few noob questions

You will need an IR blaster, the microsoft one is pretty good, and works seemlessly with XP MC or VMC.

Using one of the microsoft media centers + a TV guide service like free-epg you will get foxtel captured with little hassle.

I can't comment on third party recording software sorry.

Also note you will probably need to get the scart to s video cable to get the best possible capture to your 150.

Re: New to foxtel - Few noob questions

In addition, your happauge WinTV PVR 150 will do the job just fine. I am using one myself. You can most likely use the software that comes with the card, although I have never used it. I integrate the card and foxtel into Media Center and record Foxtel via that. There are heaps of posts on this site explaining how to do this.

For automating your recording conversion process you will need to use a program such as MCEBuddy or DVRMSToolBox.

I use this card too. IMHO the simlplest answer is to just use Windows Media Centre. Its an analoge card simply set it up using the standard process inside MCE to either composite or SVideo (depending on what you are using).

You can get any of the guides that support Foxtel channels and use a standard M$ IR receiver with buds to change channels as required.

Re: New to foxtel - Few noob questions

yep, setup is only daunting because the guides have been cumulatively written. Dizzy's 'sum up' thread was very helpful to me, but Im working on a 'newbs guide with pics' ... watch my sig

see Dizzy's thread >>
Digital and Analog TV (Guide)

as for harwdare, they key is having an analogue card that supports hardware mpeg2 doecoding. Some hauppauge cards do this well, and integrate comfortable into MCE...thus their popularity for payTV in mce setups. I muself use the pvr150(lo pro version), and input via my STB RF output.

good luck

feel free to PM me if you have any nitty gritty questions you may not find an answer for
