You might be far enough out of Brisbane and the Gold Coast to be in Austar territory. They're the regional carrier for Foxtel with a couple of slight differences (same satellite signal, but they use different encryption technology - it's theoretically possible to use their smart card directly in a PC).
Optus don't do satellite (even though they own the satellites - well, them and the Commonwealth Bank).
Not sure about telecoms though.

Thanks for that, I'll look into it further and it's given me a place to start.
