Austar Remote and MCE

Hi guys,

I finally bit the bullet and bought a Hauppauge pvr 150 and i can now see Austar thru my HTPC.

I have encountered another problem though in that no matter what i try i cant get MCE to Recognise my Austar Remote.

Ive read thread after thread and tried every conceivable set up option in mce with no luck.

Im not sure what brand of STB i have but the model number read ABQ IQ76

The IR blaster appears to be working because when i try different codes it does flicker but sadly the channel doesnt change.

Is there a work around ?

Ive read there are all sorts of problems with Austar remotes sending signals to multiple devices so mce doesnt know what type of remote it is.

Would a universal remote fix the problem ?

Cheers

Kroc

Re: Austar Remote and MCE

have you got the MCE remote and reciever. Use that to change channels as the MCE reciever wont traslate austar remote without some tinkering to transate IR commands

Re: Austar Remote and MCE

Yes i have the MCE remote and receiver as well as the IR Blaster all set up.

The problem is that MCE wont / or doesnt have the code to change the channel on the Austar box.

Ive been thru set up so many times im pressing buttons in my sleep

Ive tried so many different remote codes and i get a flicker on the blaster but no channel change.

Re: Austar Remote and MCE

Have you got a friend who could lend you a UNiversal remote. Apparently the ouput from austar remotes is different to mce remotes acceptable signals.

Re: Austar Remote and MCE

I went and bought a Cheap universal remote and none of the codes on that would change the Austar Box either. There must be a work around or something for these boxes I cant believe this whole set up is reliant on a remote

Re: Austar Remote and MCE

Hi KrazyKroc

How do you have Austar connected to your MCE - is it via svideo (cable) or antenna?

I have my Austar (it's a atlas which is stated on left hand side of the box) connected via svideo and during the setup it prompts you to learn you remote and for it to recognise it I had to basically hold the remote about 1cm (if not closer) in front of the MS IR receiver.

Once setup you can use your MS remote to change the stb and not have to worry about using the Austar Remote.

Note: setting it up this way (via svideo) will result in losing FTA channels though and only display PayTV only.

If you are connecting via Antenna then you'll get FTA and can tune in a paytv channel but you'll require the Austar remote to change the austar channels on the paytv channel.

Regards
Daz

Re: Austar Remote and MCE

Hi Krazykroc,

I've had my Austar setup under XPmce and now Vista and the Austar remote works fine. Must be very frustrating as you can see that it works for a few of us so it shows the hardware is compatible.

If you haven't then try upgrading to Vista. Also a long shot but change the batteries for the remote

I have a an svideo connection and only use it for Austar. the normal free to Air channels are handled by my PVR.
