Foxtel Setup but only displaying 4:3

Hi all I have got foxtel set up as per the guides on this website. I am currently outputting to my LCD TV via component cables at 720p and inputting to my TV Tuner via S-Video. Both the set top box and my TV are set to 16:9 and all other forms of video fullscreen but foxtel is still in 4:3 aspect ratio.

As such anything that is displayed in 4:3 is pillarboxes again inside the current display ratio (so it looks like terd). I am using the mainconcept mpeg encoders found HERE which seem to have an option to set display resolution but it keeps defaulting back to 4:3 as soon as I hit apply. I know there is a software issue somewhere with either a codec or a driver. I don't know what else I can try, if anyone has any suggestions please let me know it's starting to become very frustrating.

Re: Foxtel Setup but only displaying 4:3

Have you tried the i button and tried a different zoom setting?

Re: Foxtel Setup but only displaying 4:3

"Zoom" settings do just that, they zoom, so it makes the picture even more pixelated and stretched than it needs to be, I want it to display the picture normally on a 16:9 aspect ratio. I know it's possible as if I plug the S-video straight into the TV I get great picture clarity.

Re: Foxtel Setup but only displaying 4:3

There's a recent thread about this.

I have the same problem and I don't have an answer.

I'm fairly certain that Foxtel is still only broadcast in 4:3. This may be your problem.

Re: Foxtel Setup but only displaying 4:3

If you have Nvideo Purevideo, change your display type to 'raw aspect'. This won't change the aspect on your foxtel, but it will change the aspect on your DTV, so you can now use the 'zoom 3' setting for both foxtel and dtv

Re: Foxtel Setup but only displaying 4:3

I've been playing around with this for a while with no luck. The encoded video files are actually being tagged as 4:3 by the encoder (currently MainConcept software encoder for me - previously Hauppauge hardware encoder). I sent an email to MainConcept support to see if they could supply a modified encoder to encode with a 16:9 tag. Response from MainConcept was fast (Overnight) but negative - they will not supply a modified encoder.

I will keep trying other possibilities but it doesnt look good.

Also wondering if it would be possible to write a script to automatically change VMC zoom when the channel is changed from DTV to Analogue Input???? Anyone cleaver enough to do this???

Cheers
Gaz.
