Foxtel + capture Card + component

Hi all I am just about to run out the door and pick up my avermedia Dual hyrbid pic-e 1x tuner. I planned on using one for digital FTA and the other for foxtel (hence the need for dual hrybids). I however realised yesterday that I run component leads to my TV. The capture card only has:

75 Ω TV/FM Antenna Input x 2
S-Video
Composite (RCA)
Stereo Audio In(L/R)
Remote Sensor

Is there a significant difference between S-Video and RCA in terms of picture quality? On a whole I liked the component cables and would like to get the best picture quality available. I was thinking maybe I could get a component video to svideo convertor in order to give me the better picture quality on the card.

Is that what anyone else would recommend in this instance or will I have to roll back to RCA? Normally it wouldn't be an issue but I plan on watching and recording etc all through the Media Centre PC (as that is the idea after all).

Re: Foxtel + capture Card + component

The s-video and composite leads on the capture card are only for input. eg inputting Foxtel or austar or Video. Your Video card is what outputs to the TV. The output from those devices is inferior to the output from a good quality video card. You will need a video card outputing Component if you want to connect TV by component. There are good video cards which output DVI or HDMI, both of which are superior to component.

Re: Foxtel + capture Card + component

Ahh sorry to make myself clear I currently output over a DVI->HMDI cable to the TV, but setting up foxtel into the PC requires either S-Video or component. I assume once I lose this quality on input no matter what I output on I can't get that quality back.

As such should I input via s-video from a component->s-video adapter if such a thing exists, to give me better picture quality than that of RCA? Or am I a little misled.

Re: Foxtel + capture Card + component

Use s-video from Foxtel to capture card. The quality put out byFoxtel is no better than s-video can handle. Using DVI to your TV will give as good as component direct from Foxtel to TV.

Re: Foxtel + capture Card + component

Okay guess ill get component -> S-Video connectors tomorrow, or SCART -> S-Video whatever is easiest. I'd like to muck around with it all now but don't want to have to do it all again tomorrow so I guess I'll just have to wait for a bit heh.

Thanks for the info.
