Running Austar to two DVB-S cards with two smartcards, do i just split coax cable?

Hey, thinking of getting the austar multiroom package so I will have two smartcards

I will then be able to run two DVB-S cards and cams so I can have austar dual tuning.

Just one question though in regards to the coax, I found where you can buy a splitter that just connects on to the end of coax f-type connection and splits cable into two.

is this enough to run coax to both cards or do I have to actually run a whole new coax from the dat dish to connect to the new DVB-S card?

Thanks

You'll need a second cable & a dual input LNB (the white thing on the dish). The reason is that a satellite receiver doesn't only receive, but it sends a voltage back to the LNBF to tell it whether it wants to view a vertical or horizonatally transmitted channel - if you want one tuner to watch one type & the other the other, then obviously you can't send 2 different voltages up the same cable.

When fitting the LNB, mark the degrees on the old one before you remove it so that you put the new one in in exactly the same position.

This tells you which channels are vertical & which are horizontal: http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/austar.html - if everything you view is the same, then you could get away with splitting.

Thanks!!

But damn! Hoping it wouldnt be that hard!

But thats probably ok, I guess because to get another smartcard the technician would have to come out and install the second coax and he would do all that setup.

Only problem is because 'I'm ordering a multiroom' they will wire the coax to a separate room. It would look a little funny if I ask hum to just put the second coax in the same room as the first one because why would I want two set top boxes connected to one TV?

I guess I would have to make sure I get the second coax installed in the adjacent room and then I can just run the coax back through the wall to the second dvb-s card..

Yeah, the tech should install all that's needed up top. If you can get the cable run to somewhere close by, then it shouldn't be too difficult.
