I realise there is an abundance of info relating to foxtel and setting up MCE/Vista – some of the guides are amazing but I just can't seem to find the answer to my problem relating to foxtel signal.
I built a Vista HTPC the other month when I had various components laying about the house. I've successfully built a vista machine before but did not try to link up to a foxtel box before.
I bought one of those Compro T750 TV cards (the ones that everyone gives a thumbs down to!) – I have managed to get everything working on the machine perfectly – the guide has been set up and it works fine with a signal from the wall. But when I try and link up a foxtel box (firstly via the RF lead and then through a Scart to S-Video lead) the PC cannot detect a signal.
I called Foxtel and they said that the reason the RF lead didn't work is because the PC will not be able to automatically detect the signal as it is not the same as a signal sent out by terrestrial stations. They recommended I buy the Scart to S Video cable. So this is what I did – but I have the same problem – it doesn't find the signal.
I have played around a bit with the settings on the foxtel box – ensuring that output is set to PAL etc – I have also swapped over the scart connections to see if this would make any difference – but no joy!
Is there something I'm missing with the scanning – can I choose to only scan for a signal coming through the s-video cable? or must I do something to the Foxtel box (other than throw it out the window!)
I know most replies will tell me to get a new TV card – but this card is supposed to be digital or analogue (but not both at the same time) – so as long as I only want the foxtel signal coming through (analogue) then surely I should be OK – plus the card gets a great signal on terrestrial TV.
Hi Tim,
I have just configured a T750 to use with Foxtel.
You will need a scart cable and it does matter which socket you connect to - they are not the same - one is marked TV and the other VCR. Connect the VCR socket to your T750.
The other important thing is to reconfigure your Foxtel STB.
On your Foxtel STB Go to :
System Setup|System Settings|Picture Settings
and change the video output to YUV.
