Replacing Smart Card - They Say I Need A New Box As Well?

Hey All,

Just wondering if someone is able to answer me this.

I rang Austar about getting a new smart card and i thought they would charge me a fee and just give me a new card but they said If I want a new smartcard. I also have to get a new decoder box as well as apparently they told me that the smart cards are married to the decoder box for security reasons..

Just wondering is this is a new thing they have brought in now??

The reason I am asking is because I am using my smartcard in a DVB-S tuner card in My media PC and it works but the reason I want to replace is because it doesnt work all that well as the smartcard chip is indented with the pins from the decoder box and the IRDETO CAM I have isnt the best and possibly has the pin placements a bit different so it cant read the card that well. So I thought If I get a fresh new smart card which would only get used in the IRDETO CAM then it could read it better

But they tell me If I get a new card, I need a new box so is this thing about them being married to decoder boxes new which means I have to hang on to my card now as If I get a new one it wont work with my IRDETO CAM?? Or has it always been in place but for whatever reason the IRDETO cam can still read my card even though the card is only supposed to work with my decoder box?

If its the first case and I need to keep my smartcard, is there anyway to get the chip on the smartcard fixed to remove the indents a bit?

(Also my problem is not CAM related or driver related or OS related or Software related as I have changed all of these to rule out the problem - I actually have to stuff extra plastic inside the CAM with the smartcard to get it to read properly as it wont read when just the card is inserted)
