Austar with digital satellite card ?

Does anyone have this working - seems the hardware is available and should work.

Just like to hear that it actually does before making purchases.

Thanks,
Dave.

Re: Austar with digital satellite card ?

Yep

I have it working with Twinhan 1034 mantis card and IRDETO CAM

found both available to buy in Australia on ebay or by googling.

I use open source Media Portal to view Austar

However be warned, I had a lot of issues tuning in channels, with Media Portal and the issues unfortunately just fixed themselves so I cant provide you with any tips.

Also I havent seen it posted anywhere else but I have problems with the CAM sometimes not reading the smartcard and I believe it could be because the smartcard is already indented a bit with the reader pins from the decoder box and the CAM doesnt seem to read them as well.

To fix this, I have had to stuff a bit of extra plastic inside the CAM to raise the card so that it can be read.

I know the issue is not related to drivers, the CAM, the OS or the application as I have replaced all.

But if you get it working, it works great

Thats just my personal experience only and others have probably had more luck but I would still recommend doing it. Got sick of waiting for Austar to bring out Hard Drive recorder box and decent video output options so now i dont have to worry.

However in all honesty when the Hard Drive recorder does eventually come out I may still switch to it as its much easier and with the Media Centre option you lose things like multi channel casting, and the interactive stuff like press the red button now..However the multi channel thing is supposed to work with latest release candidate of Media Portal which I havent been able to get to work yet
